What power tool should I buy? Any advice would be helpful as I don't want to waste money getting the wrong thing. I have some very detailed sanding to be done to wheel arch lips, wing edges etc. I also need to sand paint off inner arches, chassis etc. I need the tool to be cordless. A Dremel seems a good option for the detailed work but not sure it will be man enough for larger scale sanding. Other options are a cordless drill so I can fit attachments as I need or a Bosch cordless sander. Ideally I just buy 1 product that will manage both jobs. Opinions?

i vote for a knot brush, or two, and a cordless drill

not sure a cordless anything will be up to much really
twisted knot brush in a angle grinder would do the bigger stuff well

I vote for an angle grinder/ good drill and knot brushes for your chassis etc. And do your detail by hand!

Mk1 Human Hand for detail sanding. Poss with small blocks. You can get rubber blocks for about £5-6 which take cut sheets, and make small blocks/sticks out of wood. Is the body fibreglass? Don't want anything too aggressive there. Buy decent paper - it may cost more but lasts so much better than el cheapo stuff. The rest, depends what you need to do, how much and where it is. Grinder with wire, poss flap discs, for rust, very aggressive/effective. Drill with flap wheels or wires can be handy for some stuff.

you want a random orbit DA for the sanding.
then silicone carbide disks on an angle grinder for getting paint off.
and knotted brush/wire brush for anything heavier.

Yes, I would prefer a mains powered tool but the garage where I can work on the car is a council lock up, no power, hence cordless!

As mentioned, buy a cheap genny for £60-£80 and then run an angle grinder etc as needed. Won't cost any more than a decent cordless drill anyway!

Check that you're allowed to work on the car as a lot of council lock-ups stipulate that you can't.
