Well, I got a bit bored of using the van (I'll do a thread on that tomorrow!) to commute between Hampshire and Ipswich! The M25 on a Friday is a nightmare and I wanted a new car It had to have the following: 1. Comfort. 2. Good fuel comsumption. (Ideally LPG) 3. Aircon. 4. Cruise Control. 5. Electric wondows. 6. Decent sound system. 7. Automatic. So I bought this off of Topi!...... retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=FSW&action=display&thread=56154It fails on all levels bar being an automatic!!! ;D ;D but the minute I jumped in it I realised how much I'd missed having an old cruiser! There are a few issues (all of which I knew about before I bought it!) so I've got a few things to do, namely; Alloys. They're pretty wrecked and one of the tyres is scrubbing really badly New stereo as its a mono at the moment Service I promised Mrs B that I wouldn't go mad ;D Yeah right!!

Isn't good fuel consumption and automatic an oxymoron?

Isn't good fuel consumption and automatic an oxymoron? Good point!! Actually though I had a look in the handbook (11 owners and 125k on the clock and it still has one!) and it says the auto does better than the manual!

Obviously kidding a bit, but in terms of cruiser cars like this, it's not far from true (but as you say, it might not be much different if it had a manual anyway). It does look nice though, good buy. There was one similar locally a while ago for £200 I was tempted by.

Yeah I like the wheels, but they're in a bit of a state and will deffo need a refurb! Only one tyre is rubbing (mate asked if it was bent? The car that is! ) so I'll need something while I get them done. They're beyond a quick sand down and a rattle can respray I think. I'll get some pics up for opinion over the weekend.

ud be amazed what u can do with some liquid metal and a damaged alloy, I'm refurbing some at the moment. u just use it like filler and sand it back flush. i bought some for 6quid and ive done 4 18inch wheels with it, and they had loads and loads of damage.

Hey glad you like the car It deffinately is a shame about the wheels, they fit so well but aren't looked after Oh and as for one tyre rubbing, don't worry yourself - I'm pretty damn sure the car isn't bent haha. The arch lips have been folded in and rolled slightly, my bet is that they aren't equal. I quick go over with a roller should sort that out no problemos.

Just watching some steelies on the bay at the moment, then they'll be coming off and see what can be done with them! Oh, Topi, indeed I do like it!

So, thought I'd throw an update together.... Car drives well, bloomin low and a few of those indescribable noises that come with an older car! Had a bit of a drama with insurance so it's parked up at the end of the garden at the moment while I try and find a good deal Apparently lowering a 1K car means that most insurers won't cover it! Probably should of checked first but 250 quid plus seems a lot for a 39 year old with 5 years NCB for a second car! Anyway, cleaned Wheels look good til you get a bit closer..... bit of a dent, No dents but BADLY kerbed and look a bit closer and you can see where the tyre has been rubbing on the wheelarch! Been on ebay for new one of these, Old New, needs a spruce up and spraying black but will do that at the weekend. Interior is immaculate, though a little soggy! Nice Nardi wheel, but the leather is a bit worn! Nice from the back, all red lights will be going, have some shiny standard ones coming from Hinari Bumface Fandango on here for a bargainous price ;D Trying not to go mad....... but have been looking at a few bits and pieces!

Yeah, think the wheels may come off for a bit of a refurb. Problem is with the 'pretend' split rims is that the nuts don't normally last the dipping process and I don't think I could refurb them myself. I'll have a look when I get them off. Yep, old grille has to go!

That looks lovely, wheels suit it well too. Shame about their condition. Personaly I like the red rear lights but I'm sure it will look cool however its done.

Well, had a bit of a drama Sunday night as the van finally broke! It's had a flashing battery light for a while, but not normally till the last bit of my journey. Started at the beginning and with 180 miles to go I thought I'd better turn round!! Merc was here! and looked like this Note the very dodgy stereo wiring! Had it all out to replace the dash lights, none of which worked, stereo and lay cables for the back speakers as there was an amp in there before! So tidy, (Love this car, spaces under the floor for cables etc, love it Had to put it all back together in the dark but managed by about half past midnight! Then couldn't get the fencepost out in the morning so had a mare getting it out! Finally it is too low for the track behind the house to the garage! Oh dear!

Stripped the new grille down, and threw some satin black on, then glossed the chrome bars as they were a bit rough. Looks good I reckon Car looks filthy in that pic! It is Won these on Ebay, pick them on Sunday,

Gave the car a good clean, which was the first chance I had to really look at the bodywork! It's pretty rough in places Still looks alright from 10 feet away! Picked up the new rims! Which aren't 16's Plan was to get some cheap tyres and take the alloys off for a spruce up, by me. Ended up with 4 dodgy tyres, and the tyre place taking the alloys away for a refurb Only slight drama is that they dip the wheels and this will probably make all the false split rim bolts fall out/disintegrate! De retro'd tyres are a gnats knacker from the wheel arch! Brought a new bit for the dash, didn't cost too much, I was pleasantly surprised and fitted a new stereo as a treat ;D Highlighted a few other issues, I.e. the aerial is broken, and Mercedes were still put together well when this one was built! What a PITA
