found some time earlier to do a bit more, cleaned up the front plate and fitted it with a new gasket after very carefully removing the timing gear. I need to swap the lot over as the Marina engine uses a single chain and tensioner with a bigger timing cover, whereas the front plate I need to fit the Midget uses the duples chain with the smaller cover. I now have all the bits needed to do this

apologies if this is turning into a readers rides thread, but I'm pleased that I'm getting somewhere of course, as soon as I start the engine (assuming it does) oil will probably spurt out everywhere new chain and small sprocket fitted up with original big sprocket: all back together: need to check the locking tabs on the flywheel, and then a trial 'fire up' is on the cards
