Having moved to Aus just under 2 years ago, I still have the occasional WTF is that moment, what with the MazdaFords and the ToyotaHoldens, but about a month ago I saw something I'd never seen before. I have only just found one for sale. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Australian Rover 416: I'm willing to bet it is significantly better than the UK equivalent.

That looks like a rebadged Honda Integra...
Why would that make it better than a Uk one exactly?

Oh gawd. Here goes the Rover bashing again...
Surely the equivalent Rover 416 would probably have the same engine anyway?
It's certainly an oddity - just a Honda with a Rover badge, the vice-versa situation being the Honda Crossroad sold in Japan - just a Land Rover Discovery with a different badge!

Never heard of that before, Quite cool, although most people would think you'd stuck Honda badges on your Discovery for some reason, guess it was better spec'd than the usual UK ones plus there all V8s The mk2(?) 214 over here was a Honda as well, just a rebadged Concerto, or was it the other way around That 416 looks cooler than the UK version though imho

Having owned several Rovers, I'd guess it's a very magnolia motor. Not great, but you can live with it perfectly OK.
Still, I'd like the idea of that Aus version over here, just for the WTF value!

U can picture the scene, Newly opened "Rover dealer", with 50+ Plus fresh Honda's and everyone sat around with nothing to do. Then apears the parcel van with a box FULL of Rover badges!
It was prob cheaper to do that with the deal rover had with Honda at the time than ship loads of our type's over there. Pretty much like the Honda Accord/Rover 600 effort.

The Integra was the same underneath as the UK 416.

Now, hold on a bit. This is getting all confused now. The Integra never shared anything with the Rover 416 UK (bar possibly the engine). The Rover 416 UK was a Honda Concerto - which granted, may have shared some commonality with the Integra, but was a thoroughly European flavour.

I thought it was a joint colaborations between the two companies. I could be wrong though.

I think it was a collaboration. Mk1 Rover 200 = Honda Accord Mk2 Rover 200/400 = Honda Concerto used same tools and machines. Obviously did the same things in Aus just with different models. I'm not sure there was much influence from Honda after '95

easy way to tell. if it still runs it will probably be a Honda engined rover. if it don't run or breaks down a lot it'll be a rover engined rover . the aus one probably still drives fine and has a amount of reliability plus the hondas have always looked better than the rover's ;D
