Loving this Custom/Transit/Both (never sure at that age!) Saw this yesterday when we were heading back from the CSMA Museum at Bourton-on-the-Water. Suggests it's still in regular use as it was a bit of a convoluted route from Inkberrow to Donington otherwise!

That's a Mk1 Transit.....and yeah we passed that Leyland Leopard on the M42, loaded with old truckers. The Royal Motorways logo on the front gives away its previous owners, they were a BIG coach concern based on Studley Road in Redditch (I think it's a carpet place now). I may even have rode on that down to the Abbey Stadium when I was in the VI form at school, it would have been brand new then!!!!

It's an ex German fire service van, a few of them were imported. Did it sell?

Ah, wondered what the Royal Motorways bit was about. In all honesty, I only saw that bit on the front yesterday, never noticed it was a Dudley's as I was a bit busy driving . Is there a connection between the 2 companies then? Paradise Carpets. Was racking my brains and it's just come to me!

whats this for, and is it supposed to have oil in it? It's diesel gauge, contrary to popular belief Gardner Engines did actually need it to run! 20+ mpg was normal for a Gardner 120, even if they were slow. Back then there was no in-cab gauge, proper drivers had to get out and look to see if they had enough for that 12 mile nightmare drive up Shap in 20 feet of snow with 500 tons on't back. ;D I didn't watch the auction, but from talking to a few punters the sale was a bit of a disaster.

Thanks for the plug Pete. The yellow van next to it used to be mine as well up to about 5 years ago. The other white Anglia van that was there out of shot to the right, has the 997 lump that came out of the grey van pictured, it had only done 23,000 when removed. So a bit of a claim on all 3 today one way or another.
