I am currently bidding on an S plate Renault Extra van on Ebay, but I'm not too keen on the looks especially the headlights. Is it an easy swap to convert to a Renault 5 phase 2 front end?
I have a pair of wings, indicators & headlights. What else would I need? Bonnet, Grille, Bumper? Or would it not be as simple as that?

Here's a potatochop of one so you can see; I think you need the whole lot (bonnet, bumper, wings & grille) to be honest.

Now that looks really cool. Hope I get the van now. Anyone know what colour that renault yellow is? I have 5 litres of a Renault white (can't remember what) which was supposed to be for the "5 on the drive" But I might need to switch priorities now.
I'm thinking that if i were to move the handbrake to the driver's sill & fit a Renault 5 rear bench (with the brackets reversed) in the front then I might be able to sleep in it.

Well, I got the Ebay van. All I need to do is figure out how to fetch it back from Cornwall.
Looking into train/ coach options on the morrow. Then I will need to make the van pay for itself by doing plenty of tip runs in leiu of hiring skips.
Then I might be able to tidy it up & have some fun with it. It does mean delaying the repair of the 5 on the drive but might mean that (if it proves reliable) shift the Saxo.

These things ROCK! I might have to give up my C15 obsession and move to the Dark Side of express ownership. I really fancy doing this to a C15, but I suspect its just a bit too challenged in the looks department to pull it off as well as these do.

haha thats actually just the whole front cabin and front end of a mk1 welded on isn't it? I quite like that, just a shame the plastic trim doesn't follow on along the whole car.

Right, that's sorted then.
It's deffo being done. No bad boy bonnets tho. Speaking of which, has anyone got a phase 2 bonnet going spare? EDIT. Bonnet provisionally sorted
Not sure what to do about the grille. I could buy one but as it is fairly flat I might have a go at making one from sheet metal that I have lying around. How would unpainted titanium look?
Stage 2 is to see what injector pump it uses. If it's a bosch one, then SVO here I come. With the odd tank of free aviation fuel sorry I mean injector cleaner officer it should be quite cheap to run.
Anyone got any ideas about lowering the front of these? I assume they run harder springs than R5s due to a heavier engine. I guess it's prolly best to get out the angry grinder & start chopping coils rather than trying to fit shorter R5 springs that will be too soft.
Back I guess is the same as a 5 I.e. torsion bars.
Stage 3 is to start reading pages about giggle gas. Watched the 5th gear the other night on Dave about diseasels on gas & looks like fun.
Finally, was this engine available in Turbo form? I dunno Kangoo or Clio or sommat? Conversion or engine swap?

Getting a bit nervous now. This will be the longest trip I've been on to fetch a car. My last purchase was only about 30 miles away, before that was a 200tdi Defender that ran better than the 300tdi Defender that we drove down in to collect it.
This one is a bit of a long way for me 147 miles. Still, should all be grand. Is there any last minute things I should do/remember/take?
Got money to pay for the thing, insurance kicks in at 13:00 to legally drive it. Have diesel written on the back of my hand to remember what to put in it. Tow pole in the Defender just in case, bottle of screenwash cos nothing annoiys me more. Anything else?

Well, all back in one piece.
The van has a few patches of filler that will need digging out & replacing with metal but when was the last time you saw a 10 year old van that wasn't rusty in places.
Has a few quirks tho. The previous owner replaced the non working glow plug timer with a manual switch so you have to flick the switch, count to 20 then start it up. Doesn't bother me as it's more like an anti theft device really.
Managed to drag it back from cornwall on £10 of fuel so dead happy with that. The conversion to R5 front end will have to wait as I am funding that only with what I have in my Paypal account. So it will be "sell something, buy something" until I have all the bits I need.

don't fear buying a car from ebay! just make sure you check everything over to see it matches the description. if it doesnt match, you don't have to hand over the money tycho, where you from? I'm in devon right next to cornwall!
