Been offered a bright orange early mk2 polo with 6months MOT for £150 Looks wise its pretty perfect, all it would need is slamming and some nice streched rubber. Trouble is its only a 1L engine so I'm guessing it would be slow?? Is there any easy mods or even swaps that i could do to give it a bit more poke? I'm slightly worryed as i find my tuned 1300 escort too slow! Any of you VW guys want to give me an oppinion?? (i know nothing about VWs relly (other than they can look bloody cool! ) good price? anyone want to post cool mk2 polo pics to give me motovation? : )

1.0 ltr motor is pretty tardy, but bright orange and 150 straps u cant go far wrong , 1.3 should bolt pretty much straight in and an ebay weber should pep it up no end.

TBH, the 1L polos aren't THAT slow around town, I mean there's curse word all weight in them. If the shell's good, then hoon around for a bit, take it off the road, drop a 1.3L G40 engine and gearbox in there (pretty much straight fit) and stealth buggy here we go

i've had my mk2 for a few years since my kid sis left it with me when she emigrated, TBH i don't think she'd recognise it now. anything you need can be found at the scrappy dirt cheap, i've got 'rocco GT seats fitted that add at least 10HP me and 86C off here recently bought a 1.3 5speed donor from the scrappy for £50, i got the engine/'box/zorst he got the rest. aint added a lot to top speed (now about 105 was about 95 with 1.0) but 2nd and 3rd are great fun. IMHO they're much better than a mk2 golf, set up right and they offer a lovely, precise drive, cost peanuts and really practical too, everyone should have one- i prefer it to the 'rocco i had before and that went like sh1t off a stick.

Sounds like a steal If you want to pass it by, let me know if its still going as I'm looking for a cheap Mk2 Polo until I get the Mini sorted.

I love the look of mk2 coupes, and they're a great little car. A mate of mine had a 1l engine and he regularly got 45+ mpg out of it driving like a grandma (with 4spd box too!). The Coupe S engine (1.3l) is the best bang for buck swap imo, G40s are just way too much money at the moment. A few more inspiration pics, appologies for the size

Humm I'm convinced its a good deal but its just not that simple Basicly i have to get a new daily drive as I'm reshelling my escort into a 2door shell. A guy down the road from me has an awsome little mk1 fiesta which I'm after but its prooving difficult to get hold of! Id like both but ive just not got room what with having 3 escorts and a mini allredy. Il have to see what i can sort out If i did get the polo id be needing a set of wheels for it anyone have any bright ideas as to what i could pickup cheaply? Wide steels would be nice!

Sounds like a bargain! The small engine Polo's are nippy enough around town due to low weight, our Mk1 1.1 is pretty decent and it'll do 90mph if your ears can take it! Wheels wise I'd just go for some larger/wider steels from a newer VW. Cheap and cheerful!

2 words, buy it!! Mk2 Polos rock on big time - read about our (albeit rather silly) flamed breadvan Mk2 drag racer "The Quantum Limp" on my website www.autohausdolby.co.uk/forum It's a 1 litre with a straight through egg sauce (no silencer baffles) and it does a stonking 19 second quarter mile
