Morning all, Little bit of research going on here. I'd like to hear your opinions on the 3dr Sierra Cosworth. Good or bad opinions are welcome, and just as valid as each other. Firstly, do we think the 3dr has attained classic status yet? Is it a true classic car, and if you think so, why? If you believe it's a classic, would you place it in the same league as the other great classic Fords - the Cortinas, the Escorts, the Capris, the Anglias, etc? What do you feel about the 3dr Cossie? Do you like them or not? And what do you / don't you like about them? And finally, if you had the money to buy a good example, do you think you would? And which would you prefer to own if it was your money - would it be this or the Lotus Cortina, the original performance Ford saloon? As I say, all opinions are welcome, good or bad. I want to hear from people who wouldn't be seen dead in one just as much as people who think they're the best thing ever! Cheers ladies and gents!

My opinion is that i absolutely love them, especialy in the Touring Cars black texaco livery.
As mentioned they are pretty pricey, so i myself can't afford one, but IF i could i would without a doubt.
I'd say pretty much a classic if not for sure a cult car.

I'm always uneasy using the C word, But IMO it is a classic, just not as old as the 'old skool' Fords Awesome cars from an engineering point of view, ahead of their time really, still a lusted power plant today! Not sure about the image of the road cars, not sure they send out a good signal. not to upset any owners but often Big grizzly 'geezers' in em! ;D I'd have one but I would have to personalise it.

Definetley a classic, and definetly at least in the same league as the other performance fords. I'd own one over any of the other Fords you listed if I could afford a nice one.

Definitely a classic and much more so than the Sapphires (although I like them too, just not as much). Would absolutely love one, but they can sell for up to £20K, although you can get a decent one for around £7K or £8K. In future years the Cosworths may be the only Sierra survivors as the general populace (not us on here) tend to think of Sierras as just old bangers.

Of course they are Classic, and should be given the same status as the Scrote Mexico.
I would own one in a heart beat!!!

Absolutely lovely 'Capri' - these cars are on my list if i ever won the lottery. The RS500 would be on my list somewhere. Hard to find one that hasn't been tweaked by some young lad, Demon tweeks and pocket money.
Go and get one. You wont regret it.

Keep 'em coming; don't forget that negative opinions are as welcome as positive ones! nice car to drive, very responsive and controlable, but the handling is a bit tame ( compared to older performance fords), chocolate LSD's, and always the danger is death, decapatation or loss of legs;

IMO Only worth buying a very clean well modified (engine wise) one to lock away and bring out on sunny days for a quick buzz.

Never met anyone who dislikes them.. even my dad who thinks of most 80s cars as bangers loves them. Fantastic cars, and without a doubt it's a classic, and already has been for years.

People used to say that about Capris and now they're uber-cool. Yep another vote for 3-door Cossies from me.

apart from the usual rust issues and the fact that tuned ones go bang quite often they are pretty awsome cars, very light with seriously entertaining handling, standard ones are not as fast as a cortina with a 24v in it though.

I race a Sierra Cosworth (Sapphire) and love the 3 doors although they are getting too precious for racing I think. The 3 door Cosworth is essentially a very powerful OK handling simple to work on roadcar. Up to 300bhp it's simple to fix, mostly robust, and very very fast. Between 350 and 500bhp the money gets eaten up by hideously expensive engine rebuilds, gearboxes and diffs.
Some bits are rare and expensive - original RS500 spoilers, original dashboard, body kits, unmolested cylinder heads, good blocks. Others are dirt cheap and litter Ebay. My entire race car and everything on it has come from Ebay and I can generally find every part that I need for it easily.
If you're going to buy one make sure you have a garage and can afford the insurance. Buy a good one cos it costs a lot to put a bad one right. Passionford.com is the place for Cosworth info.

and always the danger is death, decapatation or loss of legs; Eeek yeah i've watched those a few times + the banger boys don't dig em many old cars like that. I'm caging my basic 1.6 shell up, not a lot of strength in that front end. but do tell me ford experts: Were the cossie shells any different to the povo 1.6 and 2.0 (and 1.3 ) 3 doors? cos in the case of the Mk1/2 escorts the RS models had tougher shells, yeah? I'm guessing the Cossies were same as the pov 3 doors, people use em to reshell cossies anyway. scary all that power in there! Also Cortina was tougher I bet but how much so?

Don't know they look the same but the 5dr 4x4 shells were slightly different to the standard 5dr shell underneath even though they look the same
