I have just got my hands on a very solid Triumph Toledo. The underside, including under wheel arches is painted in hammerite paint. There is no underseal on top of the paint. I want to strip the hammerite back to apply zinc primer for better protection. I was thinking of using a zip wheel which I know are effective but that may be unecessary. If I can strip the paint off chemically, it may be quicker? I have only used Nitromors before and it would probably be quite expensive over the area I am looking at so anyone else got any better suggestions? Thanks

I've found Nitromors to be excellent, although as you say it might turn out to be quite expensive. What about old brake fluid? Never tried it myself but it's supposed to do the job fairly well...

If you use paint stripper, put it on reasonably thick, then cover it in cling film. That speeds things up a bit as all the fumes go into the paint. You get better penetration and use less. We bare metalled a morris traveler that way

See if you can find NitroMors for automotive use, as the standard stuff is for stripping furniture and as such contains waxes to prevent too much damage to wood, ever noticed sometimes the paint takes forever to dry after it has been used??

They sell 2 types, one for wood and one for metal.
Strippers designed for automotive use are available, try local auto paint supplies places.
The cling film also stops the stripper from drying out before its had chance to do its job.
