what size and width wheels and tyres do you imp boys run? and at what ride height with what suspension
mine rubs at full lock, std height with what look like std size tyres, but must be oversize.
handles curse word well i thought for a std car and the turning circle is curse word superb.
squats way too much under power atm though.
wots the best combo then without loosing too much in the way of drivability, i realise its all subjective but overall wots the most common/best setups?

the reason your tyres are rubbing is because the imp was designed for crossply tyres and i betting you have radials (i.e. normal) tyres. suspension, most guys run monte carlo springs and uprated shocks, spax ,avo's etc.and thats what i have on at the mo'. wheels and tyres, well you can run 14's and someone is, but i think he's having clearance problems.13's fit well and you can get a good range of tyres for these,or for the old skool look, root out a set of period 12's (dunlops, cosmics etc).width well this is debatable,a 7in rim will fit on the back and a 6in on the front but the handling suffers.5.5 or 5x13 appear to give the best compromise.have a look on www.theimpclub.co.uk/index.phpthere is a whole forum section given over to your questions.

the tyre should only rub on one side, the imp was designed with only one adjusting steering arm.
Run 6" on the front and 7" on the back, not too streched on the front 175s will be fine as the suspension dosent like square tyres. 175s on the back too, a little more steched but stiffens up the rear end makeing the car feel more balanced.

We're running 6x13in all round with 185/60x13in tyres - gives wicked handling and the rolling radius is correct, so the gearing/speedo is spot on. I wouldn't advise 55 profile tyres on an Imp, as the suspension needs some compliance in the tyres to handle at its best - too stiff and you end up with understeer and "digital" steering (on or off). I'd also advise *against* cutting the springs. Imps handle superbly and by cutting them down, you change the spring rate - and upset this delicate balance. Lower, correct rate/poundage springs are available from specialists called Monte Carlo springs (eg from Malcolm Anderson - www.malcolmanderson.co.uk) and they aren't unreasonably priced. Hope that helps.

I run 7x13s with 185/60/R13 Radials at the moment, the ride height is currently probably slightly jacked up over standard at the moment because I intend to use it on unmetalled roads when its done, I couldn't tell you what the springs are to tell you the truth, because a mate found them in his garage, they were bought but not fitted to a rally Chamois he had years back, and he didn't have any idea who made them. I haven't experienced any problems with the handling at all to tell you the truth, and the tyres are great for grip, but I have some problems with rubbing on full lock, but some spacers and minor wheelarch fettling should sort that no problem.

this was my first imp,it was an ex-hillclimb/sprint car .it ran 6.5 x 13 on the rear with 185/60 r13 and 175/60 r13 on 6x13 on the front.it stuck like glue and if my current imp handles that well i'll be happy.only downside was it was a bit twitchy in the wet. it comes down to do you want? looks, handling or comfort. should have said comfort not handling, this is what happens when the missus is yaking in your ear when you try and type!

if you know someone in the trade, get them to order your shocks direct from spax, they give about 20% off to trade.avo shocks are cheaper but they give less off for trade so it equals out.ron at impspeed had some s/hand konis for sale at national ,drop him a line on impspeed.co.uk/ he may have some springs too.monte springs can be picked up off ebay cheaply ,i paid £30 for a set of four, new they are about £35 per pair, from uncle malc as impmann suggested.just be careful buying s/hand wheels as although imps and mini have the same pcd the studs are different sizes.superflex bushes are reasonably cheap and can transform the handling noticeably.

yea i get discount from spax so thts no probs and powerflex.....dunno about superflex though.
any tricks setup wise?
was thinking of the avon cut slick style tyres too.

none that i'm aware of other tahn mentioned.only thing that springs to mind is rear drive shafts and do-nuts.with that much rear grip make sure you have the one inch shafts and lotus or comp do-nuts and they are in good order,if one goes bang it takes out the bakes and exhaust if the other side goes the rad gets it.

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.
