ooooooooooooh i had another idea in Asda last night, a wish-list
tie it in with your 'garage' thang where you list all the cars and the mods they have, then anyone cruising the readers rides might spot that you've been after a pair of XYZ door mirrors and they've got some in the loft. Could even tie it in keyword-style to for sale ads, if someone advertises something you're looking for, it PMs you.

Okay I was having a think last night,.. and I've possibly had a bit of a reversal on a previous decision,.. but only because I've been looking around at some other stuff...
What would the reaction be to possibly having a subscription service, at say between 12 and 20 quid a year. For subscribing you get the ability to upload pictures to your own gallery, you get a project web log (which will be listed in the "garage" area), part of the web log could be the wishlist feature?
What everyone else gains from this is VBulliten forum...
What do people think?

How big is the gallery, and can you then link the images else where? And could you link people your weblink without then being a member?

How big is the gallery, and can you then link the images else where? And could you link people your weblink without then being a member? I don't have a gallery size limit worked out yet,.. but I suspect it would be a good few megs, 20-30? I'll have to see what my site size limit works out at (if it includes database size) ,.. Linking elsewhere is not a problem. Yeah the web log and linking from the web log would be just like a normal blog tool so links to other sites/people etc. wouldn't be a problem at all.

Sounds good to me.

It does to me as well, if my maths is correct then a free photobucket account is 25meg, so 20-30 certainly big enough. That's cool, sounds good to me too.
It might also get people to post more, if they have to pay, they will want to get their money's worth.
Prehaps a free sesion, (say 4 weeks?) to a new member to decide whether they want to join up?

as ive said before, i don't mind paying to better the forum. i am however becoming increasingly concerned at the complexity of what people are talking about, and I'm slightly worried that my lack of computer knowledge, and p*ss poor pc will stop me from using it.

cocacolasan.... don't fret. the forum will be no harder to use, and if you don't make use of the new features you won't really notice they're there from what HoTWire has said he wants to include. Go have a look at VZi, that uses VBulletin - the user interface is pretty much the same (list of topics, click on it, reply button etc) and it's still only a webpage with some piccies on so your PC shouldn't struggle. I'm all up for a donation to make this place kick-ass, a pound or two a month is nothing. I lose more than that under my car seat I had another thought by the way, i'm sorry..... if we're going to keep up the weekly challenges, how about a section containing the winning pictures? a table with members names over the top, challenges down the side, and a picture link where the lines cross to show who's entered what challenge.

And there's still nothing there! Just a hew half-finished PHP scripts on my hard drive... But yes, it's GOT to be worth paying for. This place is like home for me

I certainly don't mind paying, so long as it didn't put off new members - presumably a non-member would be able to browse but not post? It maybe a good way of weeding out 'prank' members. Generally I like the 'feel' of the board at the moment (inc the colour scheme) I worry that if it got too many features and different areas this would be lost? I don't like change

Probably a silly idea, but what about a little map of the globe on the frontpage with little pins in the areas of the countries where we have members? Would be interesting to watch the pins pop up all over the show ... like I said, maybe a bit silly.

Now, if there was a way to tie it into Google earth, with pinpoints of loads of cool retro-locations - racetracks, car meet venues, old car factories, that sort of thing - that would be cool!
