Honestly! It seems that car spares suppliers don't stock anything any more than 5 seconds old! Granted the chevette is a bit older than that, but still!!...... Anyway, at the risk of any more exclamation marks, does anyone know a good reliable supplier of new parts for old cars? I used to use Mill auto supplies when I lived in Cornwall but allas, now I don't.
help for christ sake!

Where did you get it from? I tried the Pertronix site and the Ignitor looks like what I need, but There are no dealers over here in Blighty and also their shitting website won't allow to mail them - not from their own server based email or my own. Boooo!

Try Aldons Ignitor kit. Direct points replacement. Take out old points, put a collar over the dizy spindle, replace points with pickup that uses same mounts as points and space it with the bit of plastic provided.

I just bought two sets off autofive for a reasonable 6.50 inc postage. My apologies sprocket, it's a 1256. I'm gonna look into these other links though when I've got a spare five minuets and find out about leccy ignition for the old girl. I like the thought of doing away with points entirely

Watch for wear in dizzy spindle,I seem to recall from my dim and distant past that it was always a problem with Vauxhall Dizzy's if wear is present then elec conversion is the best way forward and will save you loads of frustration!! Fitted a Lumenition to my 69 mini and one to a friends E type took about 15 mins to fit and results were outstanding!!

my ha had problems with that... apparently the more prone ones were the ones were the earlier ones.. only way to tell which one you have as far as I know is to look at the bit in the block that drives it.
on the early one the slot is dead central on the later ones the slot is offset.. (this is from memory though so may not be 100%)
above info relates to 1256 only

if its the bosch type they're the same as ohc ford (pinto) as is cap, condensor& rotor arm.
dizzy shaft slot is as you say but early ones are offset.

if its any help i've a large selction of parts catalogues (ex car spares) mainly cover 60's to early 90's.
have done a few list's (of what fits what) but useless with pcs so would have to send me an sae,
some cars have loads of bits that are interchangeable with other makes, while others very little.
one for the panda fans outer cv boot is same as mini ( real one not those recycled u-boats).
problem is now days that older stuff isn't listed or they can't be arsed/don't know how to cross ref.

Hope that clears that up
