the spring on the left is standard ride height, the one on the right is 3 inches lower. changed the front passenger side this afternoon and its still sitting as high as it did. bounced on it for a while and took it for a spin, over 6 speedbumps and round some right hand corners in the hope it would settle its self. it hasnt, anyone got any ideas why its not gone low? will it sort its self out when both are done? cheers

Get all of 'em on, takes a few hundred miles if not more to settle afaik, try it and see!
If you have one shorter spring the other 3 will probably hold the car level.

theres only one standard spring on it now, the front drivers side. the backs down about 2 inches, front passenger side has a 3 inch lowering.

Are the new ones much firmer than the old? ie. they don't compress so much.

with the weight of the car sitting on it, it doesnt look like they compress as much. but id have thought with them being physicaly shorter that this would translate to an equivalent drop on the car.

check the poundage - shorter ones usually are higher - if more than the stock ones then you wont get the drop you want

I think with the other side being standard height it'd have an effect. When I chopped my coils it went a bit lower and I was a bit disappointed. Then I drove it for a bit and it went lower still. Then I drove it all week and it went even lower.... then I was starting to brick it as I didn't have much arch clearance left! ;D

Get inside the car and take a deep breath. Then get out and call your bank manager, asking to borrow about £2m (for a magic golden goat or something). If he says something like 'Is this a fugging wind-up or summert you tw*t?' it will be because you are talking like daffy duck - classic sign of a car over-filled with Helium (of which high ground clearance is also a symptom). If this is the problem, simply use a vaccuum cleaner to get rid if all the Helium, and the ride height should correct itself automatically.
If its not that, i don't know i'm afraid.

I was going to suggest that, but I thought that they would have tried the obvious stuff like the old helium trapped in the vehicle, as well as measuring the gravitational field to see if variations in the Co. Durham area would affect such issues. But seeing as you're stating obvious solutions MrB...

have you got adjustable spring seats ? if so the length of spring doesn't really determine the ride height its where the spring seats are sat. So if you had the springs on the left and then wound the seats up to meet the spring with no load on it you would end up with the exact same ride height as if you did the same with the spring on the right (assuming the spring weights are the same)
You have to be carefull changing to shorter springs as you can break things really quickly if the coils bind before you are on the bump stops.

I changed the springs recently on my mg and it didn't appear any lower at first either, but after using it for a few days they soon settled.
Just give them a a bit of time
