Hi, I've been getting inspiration from the projects on this Forum for a while now and I'm greatful to see I'm not the only one with a soft spot for early british engineering! I've been modifying minis for what seems like my whole life, and Ive had a few quick ones including my latest which I've had for 6 years and is great fun. Recently I decided to use a few spares and build another car but after some thought decided that building another mini would be pointless as I already have a rather good one! What else uses the old A series and is affordable? ( MG Midgets are still moon money over here) So I found this, a car I have always quite liked the shape of. pics should go in here....

If you paste the flickr file name between [/img] tags then you need to remove the ?v=0 from the end. Look forward to seeing the A40!

Fixed the link,.. the auto link detection on the forum gets confused by the @ character for some reason. Then as Seth says :

And that is another of those cars I would love to have. In fact, maybe the only one of the BMC type cars I would actually buy, aside from a Moggy van or truck.
Welcome, and great looking car.

Thanks, I'm going to keep the colour when it gets repainted as I think it really suits the car. I may change the roof colour to black or silver. I haven't decided yet. Main priority at the moment is to do the last few things for a WOF. Have already rebuilt the brakes and they seem to work suprisingly well and the motor seems strong. But the clutch is slipping and the g/box is toast so its got to come out. I think I've secured an 1275 MG Midget box so just waiting to get that and rebuild it, then get it on the hoist and do that conversion and finish all the little bits in one go. Hope to have it roadworthy for the British Car day we have locally once a year which is soon. This will mean that I'll have a bit of summer left to skid around in it and get a feel for it before the serious work starts!!! Oh , and I fully intend to " hit it with a big stick " ( I think thats right!) because all cars look better with the wheels stuffed right up in the arches. ;D

If your into A40's and you need some inspiration heres a couple of links to some eye candy. www.flickr.com/groups/a40farina/www.russell-clarke.com/gal/v/austin-a-40-farina/The red and white mk2 racer is a car that competes in the north island rounds of pre65 in NZ. Its a trick little car considering the restrictions they must run under. I've seen this car in the flesh on a couple of occasions and after speaking to the owner was allowed to ask heaps of annoying questions and crawl around under it taking photos. i'd like my car to be a road going version based on what this guys done, with the ability to improve on some things because I'm not restricted by rules. The black one with the arches is a south island pre65 car. Don't know much about this one. The creamy yellow one is a genuine 60's nz race car still owned by the same guy. I think it started its racing career with a formula jnr engine and progressed from there. His name is Brian Ax and he has his own website. www.motormachinists.co.nz/brianax.htmwww.pre65.org.nz/www.pre65racing.co.nz/

Old and new clutches in front of old gearbox Suprised it was slipping, Those rivets look super grippy!! Rebuilt gearbox ready to go in. I was lucky... after stripping down 2 boxes I found one had a mint gearset, laygear and shaft. It also happened to be the gearbox I had stored uncovered outside for 2 years!! Gearbox in and working like a charm A little bit of bling for the old girl..... ;D Getting there slowly.......

thanks for your comments. My mates want me to paint it some bright colour so it attracts attention. I think it will attract heaps of attention anyway just cos its quirky, old and uber cool!! So I do intend to keep the Horizon Blue colour. Still thinking about the roof colour. Maybe silver? It was the Deluxe models in NZ that had the black rooves not sure if it was the same in UK.
