Hey ya'll, right I'm still wanting Slot mags on my mx5 sure no one has done it before and I really like slots.
I don't think its been done before cos I can’t find any slots with the correct pcd.
I’ve looked on here and for the life of me can’t find a final answer is it worth welding up holes and redrilling, is it safe, is this a dead end idea?
I’ve been offered some 5 stud ones that have already been drilled once to make 4 stud (ford) so as a trial set should I have a mess around?
It wouldn’t be me doing the work it would be a fabrication company down the road from me who have always done quality precise work.
Has anyone done this on here before?
Thanks Chris

The world is flat-out lousy with wheels for the MX5. I think it sheer lunacy to redrill wheels that have already themselves been redrilled once before. It is one thing if the wheels are precious drops of heritage straight from the Dunlop design studio and used in one race by Baron Von Munchausen's Horch in his 1935 victory at Dieppe, thence lost to the world thru the mists of time..... until found in Mr. Longstocking's shed in East Anglia under a ceremonial canoe from Swaziland. It's quite another thing if this aggro is being done to save 9 pfennigs, or the tedium of more scrounging the weekend autojumble. So these wheels will have had, what # of holes in them each, by the time you're to be done? 13? With the first 9 of them tigged up? Why the trouble, sir? Justify yourself before a jury of your beers, I mean, peers. ;D

I wouldn´t recommend redrilling a redrilled wheel Chris, you´re asking for trouble.
I´d try and get the hubs adapted to fit or maybe get some "one off" PCD adapters made to fit.

It would depend on the metal around the studs, some are cast with voids in the space between the lugs so can't be easily redrilled try to find a set that is a very close pcd. and just move the holes in or out a bit, if you want 100 and find a set of 101 then no probs, I did this on a set for my camper and it worked a treat. As above for redrilling a redrilled set

The Mx5 is 4x100, so if you can get some 4x4" (101.6mm) wheels, you can fit them using wobble bolts with a sleeve that will take up the difference. You can also get adaptors from www.concept-wheels.be/ to fit almost anything on to anything, but you will end up with 20mm extra poke using them. I'd look down those avenues before redrilling wheels, both are proven and safe.

^^Slotmags tend to use sleeved nuts though, so might end up having to have a taper fitting machined into them anyway. I'd try and find some in 4x 4" and have the holes machined so they'res slots to take them down to 4x100mm. As long as you get some spigot rings so its tight on the centre bore it should be fine.

a few places still do new slot mags (now also in "plus sizes" - ie diameters over 15") so if you have the dollar you can go with new slots custom ordered for your PCD.
Otherwise I'd go with Mr Stylz advice above.

Thats the missing link, money lol. Right ok total put off the idea then of drilling thanks guys.
Ill try to look into finding some 14" 101mm pcd wheels then to have a play with! Matt what do you mean by spigot rings?
thanks chris

They're rings that fit on the centre spigot to make them larger, so that they fit the centre bore of the wheel perfectly.

Sounds dodgy to me, always put off messing with wrong PCD wheels and defo wouldn't redrill some unless they were blanks designed for it. Theres loads of great 4x100 wheels, albeit sometimes scene taxed. However, mags put on an MX5 and some complementary custom touches could look smart, after all it is modelled on a curvy old British sportscar. Nev showed me a pic of a VW Polo on Slots, so either he wobled/bodged it, or ya could get em 4x100 good luck.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

luck is what I need lol, I don't think they where ever available in 100mm but then again!
theres some real nice J wheel that I love but I'm not paying £400+ to sort it out, more fun working for the look I want.

Slots WERE available in 4x100, but they're stupendously rare. Most will be 4x4" and people who don't know any different will be bolting them on as 4x100 as they're 'close enough'.

oof! they are VERY nice indeed. Do they exist in 5x120 PCD (15" or 16") or 5x112 (16" or 17")?
Would i be committing a huge faux pas, putting these on a 2006 model Audi A3? I'm thinking it might be ridiculous...need a retro car!

HotBoxie, go right to the ARE website and noodle around. They list the available PCDs and the offsets and sizes. It is www.americanracing.comMy company is stocking warehouse for ARE. Just sent a set of Torq Thrusts to France' yesterday (by way of Long Beach) in fact! Oui-oui. Email directly if I can assist. Shipping is a killer, but I'm still likely less than buying AREs in Yurrup. But if not, that's cool, get 'em locally.
