They're HIF44s, aren't they? 1 3/4? It looks like you can take a standard HIF44 and rebuild it with a 'turbo' kit and end up with the same thing, according to some of the forums I've read - is this the case? Does this mean I could fit twin HIF44s to my Sprint, replacing the HS6s, then at a later date force feed them whilst in the meantime running them NA? Just wondering........Eatons are floating around again...seems like a good idea.... It's an 'on the cheap' job, hence the carbs - plus I like the idea of mucking about with them. I don't mind the draw through (like a single HS8 or similar) to feed it but it's the potential lack of workable intercooling that troubles me in that instance!

You can rebuild a normal HIFF44 to use with a turbo. There is a thread on here detailing it www.turbominis.co.ukI will see if I can find it for you.

Thanks, I found several threads there about HIF44 non-turbo to turbo rebuilds! Least I know it's a viable route if I do see some cheap non-turbo HIFs, although I'll keep an eye out for the already sealed and set turbo ones

if you go the eaton 45 route you need to remember that they are "dry" as standard. in that you need to "blow" through the carb.
I had a "wet" setup, in that the carb is still suck through into the charger then to the engine. not sure its a great idea as you end up with a massive run from the carb to the charger and idle was wibblepoo.
so if you want a wet setup you need to get the eaton rebuilt with different seals.

Yea, I'd be blowing through the carbs, so the charger would be dry. I'm aware of the potential issues surrounding it but like I say, it'd be the intercooling (or lack of it) issues with a draw-through setup that put me off most of all Not to say you can't intercool a draw through setup but there's enough compromises being made as is! I found an HIF44 for sale and another Sprint manifold so will put the two together and see if it sits OK. Then at least I can start looking at how the rest of it would fit together in the engine bay

I think you could mod the carbs you have to run turbo'd. IIRC PPC did this on their turbo roller, as a HIF44 would've been a bit small for a V8

Mechanic's rule #1... If the car works, anything left on the floor after you finished wasn't needed in the first place

Haha, swimming hole through a straw springs to mind! I remember that too now that you mention it - something about tapping and feeding the dashpot with boost to equalise both sides of it. I shall dig it out!
