To be honest they don't look as if they've been stretched that much to me - they look a lot more like they've been designed to have a curved sidewall like that. I think you're right, but that curve can't be achieved without a degree of stretching can it? Either way, it could still be part of the inspiration...another being that the 'look' allows for much wider wheels that your arches could handle on the recommended sized rim/rubber combination.

I have emailed some pictures of stretched tyres to a friend who works for a Tyre manufacturer for an expert opinion I will let you know what he says

stretched rubber looks good, along with cutting the springs, and satin black paint. who cares if its safe? ;D ;D . The rest of us? Seriously. I'm not convinced as to the safety of stretching. HOWEVER....I will wait for Rev to get back to us on what he finds out. I'd like to drop it till then. its hard to express sarcasm over the net, but i was joking personally i think in moderation it wouldnt be too bad, i think that you arent going to get as much warning that the tyres are about to lose grip, as theres less flex. I'm putting some 175/50's over my new 13x7" rims, and think thisll give me a nice amount of stretch but still be fairly safe, as 175mm is 7". ive seen 175's on 9" wide rims and i think thatd be a tad dangerous ;D (but look awesome ;D
