Thought the Trabi was RWD anyway...?
As for the one linked, as much as I want a Trabant, I wouldn't touch anything associated with that bunch of overrated pretentious wanÂkers.

Aw, mental! It looks to be in decent condition too, although I have insane dreams of bike engined and/or rear wheel drive Trabis, and I'd feel a bit guilty doing that to a car with that sort of history. It is pretty cool though! IMO Trabi's are to heavy for Bike engine conversions....... Shouldn't it have stupid rose / blue tined headlights........

I like long walks, especially when they're taken by people I don't like.

As for the one linked, as much as I want a Trabant, I wouldn't touch anything associated with that bunch of overrated pretentious wanÂkers. *n Nah, front, the Sachsenring factory were quite fond of the FWD layout, they were using it since the 50s, and the P601 Trabi's no different. It means it's ideal for VW engine conversions too, because the front wheel drive layout meant that they stuck a Polo 1.1 engine in later ones, which makes me think that bigger VW engines could be cool in there, G40 anyone? You are right though, they look as though they should be rear drive Oh, and you're right, U2 are definately over-rated, but I won't hold it against the Trabi, especially seeing as it's a universal (the estate) so it's rare enough even without the U2 connection!

I see the connection, they're the same sort of shape and they're more than a little obscure.

DAF + Bike Engine = ;D Anyone know how much torque/power the variomatic can handle...? *n The variomatic that was in the volvo could take 240bhp OK. Thats what the works 2.016V rally cars put out with the rubber band box. If the Daf box is any less it should be easy enough to put a volvo box in.

As far as I know there is an IFA and Trabant club, plus the Unloved Soviet Socialists Register (clever name, because it allows them to be called the USSR and have that written on the motors! ;D ;D ) would cater for them probably. As far as spares are concerned, very little goes wrong on a Trabi, and mechanically they're incredibly simple, so I wouldn't be overly worried about engine spares etc, seeing as they only have seven moving parts and even though don't move very fast! ;D ;D ;D
