I have changed the badges now.
Also got rid of the centre vent and installed some of my old gauges, bezels are to follow when I find some.
Also shimmed the valves
Now I intended to fit an oil cooler ages ago when I did the first oil change, but dues to stupid stuff like Christmas and being skint from not being able to work I haven't been able to do the cooler and the car has done about 1000 miles now and the first change is well overdue.
Got this oil cooler from the scrapyard, it says Ford on it but I don't know what exactly it came off , it fits nicely though and is pretty much the same width as the rad and IC. I got some 1/2" hydraulic pipes made up to join it all up.
I took no chances with breaking this one so ground the fitting down to the thread and chiseled it off, they use some kind of adhesive sealant on the threads perhaps.
I used a mocal sandwich plate adaptor.
The cooler roughly in place and connected up.
I need to secure the pipes more betterer and put the splash pan back on (after a little cutting, could do with a new one to be honest) Unfortunately the way the pipes run means I have to disconnect them in order to change the alternator belts but they are ok for a while yet, I guess I can change them when I do the oil in future. I still need to make up some brackets and check for leaks in the morning but a quick check with my torch in the fading light checks showed no leaks. It took 4.5 litres of oil to get to the full mark on the dipstick.
While I was at it I replaced the leaking turbo oil return pipe gasket at the top end, I didn't have a new one when the engine went together and had to use an old one that has seeped oil all over the mount and steering column and crossmember.
