Does anyone on here run fleet insurance? I know there are a lot of people with a lot of cars! We've been thinking about it, as we currently have 4 cars on the road all insured on separate policy's etc, and it would be a lot simpler to have one policy that allows all of us to drive all of the cars on one policy. What would be an average sort of quote for 4 cars on an 'any driver' policy?

Same situation at my house, but from what I've gathered, unless you're going to go with third party dealer insurance, it doesn't usually work out better.

I would want a policy the same. When the cars are not being driven i just need them covered for theft as they are all at home on the drive or in the garage. However when i am driving 1 of them i would like fully comp insurance. I mean i am only going to crash 1 of them at a time.
With the amount of goons like us who own far too many cars out there you would have thought that someone would have tailored something. I don't generally sell my cars very often so would probably not qualify for traders insurance.
Does anyone know of anything out there?

I have a traders policy with Wilsons commercial insurance, though it states MMA on the cert. It costs me £1150 a year but i split it with my Dad so it only hits me personally for £575. That intitles me to drive any car for any reason with an indemnity of £100,000. So i can drive any car i like but it was worth £150k id have to front the other £50k.
All you need is some proof of trading, like letter heads etc and you shouldnt have problem getting something.

I just took out fleet insurance for the first time through Footman James.
The cars are a 1967 Hillman Minx, a 1991 Mercedes 300TE-24 and a 1991 Mercedes 190. The last one is declared as modified as I am half way through swapping it to a 3.0L.
Cost: £544.

I insure 4 cars with Footman James for £230 fully comp.
If you take a trade policy and are not trading you risk being uninsured. Happened to a lad on another forum a while ago. Insurance companies are happy to take the premium, but not happy to pay out. Just because you paid doesn't mean you are covered.
When I was trading I kept some cars on regular classic car cover as there are restrictions on trade cover I didn't like
Loads of insurers do multi car policies for home users. AON, Norton, Footman James, Admiral, etc. just try phoning some up!

"Any driver" policies are pretty expensive usually, why do you need one? Why not just name the drivers who will drive the car?

putting a 17 year old on is cheaper than "any driver". An "any driver" policy has to allow for the fact that either you are offering it out as a hire car or courtesy vehicle and thus will get thrashed to curse word or that you have drivers who will have convictions for drink driving, no insurance, dangerous driving and they are hoping than an "any driver" policy will be cheaper than declaring previous convictions.
I have also seen several "any driver" policies which state "any driver who holds a full UK driving licence with 3 or less points and is over the age of 25 and has no previous convictions for dangerous driving nor any prior driving ban for any reason".
Or words to that effect.
And that was like a £10,000 premium...
like I say, expensive and usually only companies bother...
You are best asking who will add a 17 year old as a named driver.

My Dad has a Multicar policy with footman james, and its very reasonable. He is just about to move the Morgan off the FJ policy tho, as they seemed confused when he asked about salvage retention, and figured that he might change to someone who can offer it on his pride and joy.

I thought salvage retention was standard on Footman James classic policies?

Maybe it is, but it was not the impression we where given
My dad asked and the response was "there is no standard letter i can send you with information on salvage retention, I'll have to find out......" spoke to manager etc and still got no clear answer.
My dad figure that it would be best to move the Morgan over. If he couldnt get information out of them now, its unlikely he would during a claim.
Thats just our experience anyway.

sure, but theres a big assed booklet comes with the policy each year, I'm sure I'd seen a statement in there on it. Worth a look? Not read one in years though TBH! And fair comment, you should check what is included in your insurance and if its not all as you want it you should move to an insurance company where it is. So much more to this than just who is cheapest for premiums!

Hmmm, i'll have a look at the booklet, like many people i'm guilty of not reading every one cover to cover.
And its so true about it not all being about the cheapest quote, lots of people forget that.
