it's becoming pretty obvious that my new car - cinquecento - is possibly the easiest car in the world to steal.
i'm not looking to stop them getting in but just stop them driving off, so some kind of interior ignition switch? or a switch for the fuel pump rigged up somewhere..
just wondering what people's ideas might be?
thanks

Is the car injection? If it is carb the fuel pump switch would be a great idea because the car would run for a few hunderd yards then apear to break down. You could have a magnetic reed switch installed somewhere maybe cutting the coil out so the engine would just turn over? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reed_switch

Just hide a switch somewhere that switches off something on the engine electrics, like the LT side of the coil or whatever. Keep the extra wire out of sight so everything looks normal. Or, one of those brake line-lock valves (or whatever they're called?) the dragracers use. Hide it down the edge of the seat. That would fun.

I have a kill switch on the pickup, and also added an in-line fuel tap - not theft proof by any means, but it's all going to help - esp when the doors don't lock!!
my insurance specified 2 means of immobilisation, so I said I have a kill switch - the girl on the phone said I could take my battery out as the 2nd method - LOL!! - kev

Under the rear seat is a removable plate, under this you will find 3 pipes and 4 wires, by reference to the wiring section in the Haynes book of lies you will be able to identify the wire colour for the positive feed to the pump. you can then fit a simple on/off switch into this wire at any point along its path to the dash. No fuel pressure = no going anywhere. Secondly, fit a flashing led in one of the switch blanking panels, red side to permanent live, black side to ignition switched live. When you switch the ignition off the light will flash, you'll never forget to turn it on and it will deter most casual thieves. HTH

I don't know about the Cinq, but on my Rover the crash switch is just by the driver's knee behind the trim panel. It only takes a few seconds to reach round and trip it, which kills the fuel pump. Easy peezy!!

I like the imobiliser in the link danblez posted.
But i would be worried about the magnet in the key fob killing my phone or credit card strip!
I am just going to hide a switch under the drivers side seat on my skoda.

i had a locking fuel line tap on my last car, is great until you forget and go whisking out onto a roudnabout only to have it die, then have to fumble keys out unlock tap and restart car all with people swearing because it seems like you waited to start it back up

Grr i really hate immobilisers, I just spent a good few hours ripping the one in my landy out, shame you didnt post this a week ago you could have had it for nowt...
As it was i smashed it into little pieces with a lump hammer, then binned it...
The best I have seen done is to get a piece of wire strip the copper core out and crimp on the appropriate ends for your coil fittings then when you park up replace this for the LT coil wire, all looks stock but won't work...
Make sure the wires are different colours so you don't get 'em muddled up..
