bit of a long story to this one
my brother got this marina
he fell in love with it as soon as he seen it and bought it
the guy had painted it on a frosty night with gloss black paint but the shine went off it because of the cold air/frost
it sat at my mums house for a few weeks then my brother sold it to a freind of ours he also had big plans but it ended up it sat in his shed for a few months
I herd he was going to weight it in so I offered what my brother sold it to him for (£40)
well I toyed with the idea of putting an omega 2.5 v6 engine in it
but as it turns out the v6 was whaayyyy to big so I took the engine out and let it sit in my shed for another few months
but lately I have had a hankering to get it sorted
I got two 1.8 astra gte multi point injection engines of a guy in letterkenny for next to nothing but both where in a bad way and had no looms ect my freind gave me a mbi remappable ecu and wiring loom to suit the mpi engines
so I took the ford type 9 and my alloy 7 degree bellhousing off the v6 and stuck it on the 1.8 block
the clutch pressure plate was to small and was to tight against the 1.8 serria deisel friction plate it was squashing it against the flywheel even when the clutch was pressed
my brother suggested using a deawoo nexia pressure plate as
they where slightly deeper and used the same fly wheel pattern as the 1.8 astra gte fly wheel but used the same thrust bearing as the astra (which is the same diameter as the capri one in it )
I made some home made engine mounts so I could mount the engine as far back to the bulk head and as low as I could the mounts you can see in the exhaust picture
and I and a mate cut and shut a propshaft with the help of a few friends called budwiser (this is only a temp solution to see if it acctually works) with the front of a capri prop and the back of a marina
surprisingly both shafts where the same diameter and the ford type 9 and shaft lined up exactly where the centre bracket was on the marina
I managed to blag some 6" x 13" cobra slots of a mini which where in a bad way but I spent a few hours elbow grease and a lot of autosol to get them back to a reasonable shine
I used the standard 1.8 8 valve exhaust manifold and down pipe even tho I chopped it a bit
and I also blagged some stainless steel pipe work from a job I was working on and made my self and exhaust as close to the original as I could
so as it sits at the min I have had it winding over with a spark but I have to finish the exhaust , finish plumbing the cooling system and heater matrix, rigg up some sort of fuel pump and pressure regulator and sort the hydrolic clutch to the capri cable and the brakes
not bad for a 1.8 astra gte engine in a morris marina with a ford capri type 9 gear box with a manta distributor and a ford serria friction plate and a deawoo nexia pressure plate home made prop with mini wheels ;D
soon to be very lowered ;D
