Just found this for sale on Car and Classic site - Great nick and I reckon is perfect for a slight drop and some nice wheels. These 99's are kind of ugly but have a very quirky charm I reckon. Anyone know of any that have been modded nicely, in a Euro way?

Nah, 16v Turbo inline( not transverse) 4. Just like the factory should have built.

A friend of mine slammed a slightly later model...it went very low and looked very cool. Moondiscs, whitewalls and a serious drop should do it.

Beautiful. A day's work could have that knocking on the door of the OOF thread IMO.

I think its too nice to fanny about with! The wheels are as important as the chrome grille and bumpers to its appeal I reckon. I would sanction some mods on a later one though.

I agree with xbo11ox. I think you'd have a hard time parting it from the owner if they knew of your schemes

Saab had a minilite-lookalike wheel as an option for those... Looks quite OK on them.

Maybe this is sacrilege, but I think a VW-inspired Cal Look would look awesome on this car. Maybe take some ideas from Squarebacks / Fastbacks? Love that colour. I think the steels look splendid too.

Benzboy, probably the best idea to go for... Even though I don't like the looks of the 99 very much, I think that such a 99 would look quite OK... I once did build a Volvo 142 that I after it was finished realized had strong cal look appearance, and it looked really good, was an eye-catcher actually.

I would sanction some mods on a later one though. ^^^ my thoughts exactly - that one is far too lovely to mess with - perhaps if she was a rusty project who wasn't already original and pristine then yeah, restore your way and slam etc. I quite fancy a mid 80's 900 turbo sedan (16v for preference) slammed to the deck, matt or satin black and looking mean as hell. I'm sure I'll get it done one day Just not with my inheritance - she's staying as she is, factory concours Kirsty

The treatment Seth gave his wagon would work perfectly on the car in the OP. *n

I can see there are some mixed opinions on whether it is right to mod a car when it is in such original lovely condition. I am not sure either but I do know that if I was to plough money into a car to modify in whatever way, the best base car always means you already have a head start. I like the ideas about a Cal look. Must admit I am a bit of a noob on the scene and get mixed up between Cal and Euro....

I'm not particularly good with the terminology either! Here's an example of how a popular VW look can be translated onto a different car, with fantastic results: Full Reader's Rides thread here.

That is called a 'resto-cal' in VW circles. I believe the owner of that one, or one similar such vehicle is on the Restowagenuk forums. (edit: just checked, same vehicle )

Nice work VIP! Very subtle, doesn't detract too much from the original (very mint looking!) car. Looks superb!
