Ok folks I'm looking for a folding garage! You know the sort of thing - giant tent with a pram-hood type mechanism which covers a car without actually touching it. Has anyone got any experience of such things - are they likely to blow away, and suppliers to recommend? Here's a picture of the sort of thing:- Oh and to keep it retro:-

I had a Coversystems one that I kept my V8 Scimitar in until I got the carport built. It did a great job of keeping the car dry (plus it was only £80 secondhand off fleabay). The metalwork was heavy enough to be pretty sure it wouldn't blow away, but I did concrete some threaded bar into the ground just to be sure. The one in the picture looks pretty flimsy compared to the coversystems framework. The only problem I had was a few rips in the cover after a gale (easily patched) and the one time we got heavy snow it did start to sag badly so I had to go out in a blizzard and start brushing the snow off it. ;D www.foldinggarages.co.uk/index.htm

Can't recommend any, but I did find this - www.canopiessouthwest.co.uk/car_ports_perambulator.html - and interstingly, discovered they are called Perambulator Garages. A guy near me had one for absolutely years, I was dying to know what was under it....eventually he left it down one day. It was a 4 door Golf diesel, the newer fat one. Gutted. (His was bolted to his concrete drive)

I've been considering likewise myself (how is my double garage not enough? Only 18 months ago, any garage would have been a god-send!) so thanks for the advice chaps.
Windy where I live, so I'd definitely go for the bolt-down option. Mate used one for his 2CV for years with no issues.
