I am looking at taking a mk1 festa off my mates hands. Fancy it as an interesting old skool project.
Question is we managed to get 90bhp from my mini thou with the right head and cam and straight cut drops, max bhp at 8250 rpm. Can the old ford 950 be tuned similarly do you recon, feel like the chalenge of a super screamer back roads car.

not a 950, 1100 will do but will take a lot. 1300 and 1600 go straight in with a couple of alterations. 1600 does 90 without trying really. 1300 will do it easily also but a litlle less reliable than the 1600. more importantly, check for rust and rot, fiesta are pretty reknowned for rotting EVERWHERE

you could turbo/supercharge it of course, that may do it, however it is likely to fail as they aren't particularly strong i don't think

950/1100/1300 'Valencia' crossflow is pretty radically different to the 1300/1600 'Kent', mainly due to the three-bearing crank instead of the bigger brother's five-bearing job....which limits the revs somewhat.
V8Devon built a tuned 1100 years ago which would (just) stay with a stock Mk1 XR2 up to about 85-odd mph...though it didn't last long. I'll ask him how he did it.

Cheers guy's. Posted this up as although i know there was a thread on the 1100 was not sure on similarity, last ford i messed with was a mk1 tina gt. Braindamaged you may know the car i am looking at, it's the yellow y plate running round Rubery/Bromsgrove on the 13" steels with xr arches and boot spoiler.

Gona hunt out a spare head on the bay or here then it would be off to CHD in Bromsgrove for some ectensive metal removal. Looks like HotRod drags is going to be wet again, this is convincing me even more that mk1 festa screamer daily to replace Merc and Suzuki LJ jeep import to replace hot rod could be a lot more fun and useable.
