Went with a mate to collect this today, a 1968 Morris 1100 mate wanted one for ages, he was looking for a 2 door specifically, this one seems really tidy. Fun to drive too, very chuckable despite not much power. So I went off looking for modded ones and couldn't find too many apart from these: so educate me, any one got pics of modded ones? any one got a modded one? Also any advise on parts suppliers, clubs to join etc?

QUAL. The number of times I have had to listen to my dad blather on about how FAB his Morris 1300GT was.... I suppose in the early/mid 70's that would have been akin to rolling a Civic Type R or somesuch! His was that colour too I think. Then I spoiled the party and he got a sensible Marina. LOLZ.

he looked at a GT a while ago which turned out to be rotten (and over priced), i doubt this one will be getting any serious modifications but a few gt goody's would be nice like twin carbs.

The Morris and Austin versions in particular are one of the most underrated cars out there. They are ice cool as standard, but with some really subtle mods and a hot A series, they can be ace If one comes along at the right price and I've got some spare cash, etc, I'm 'avin it...

Hang out at www.aronline.co.uk and consider joining the 1100 Club. They're very active. Great little cars and I know of one going in Somerset for a few hundred quid (join the AROnline forum and you'll spot it in the For Sale section). They're like a Mini but bigger, more comfortable yet still lots of fun to chuck into the bends.

As the owner of this: I can say some mods are easy and some are a pain in the ! If you plan to change the wheels for some nice alloys, think again! The offset of the standard 4.5" Steelies is +60!! My Minilites are +25 and as you can see they stick out madly at the front. Also modding the suspension is a pain. You can let out the pressure in the system to lower it, but that makes it sloppy and ruins the handling. You can shorten the pushrods on the hydrolastic units, but you have to know how much to cut them down by and if you get it wrong you'll need to source new ones.... There is a guy on ado16.info who has fitted a coil spring conversion which looks quite good, but may be costly (incidently, my car is the 'cover star' on the ADO16.info website at the mo!). Other than that, engine mods etc are a piece of curse word as the engine/gearbox are basically Mini items with just the odd difference here and there. Good luck anyway, they are great little cars as long as you've got a good one!

^^^What he said Here's mine The exterior more or less standard but the engine has the usual LCB exhaust maifold staight through exhaust, modified inlet manifold and ported cylinder head K&N Filter etc. I've also got a set of 1:5 to 1 ratio rockers waiting to go on.

Sometimes hear these described as "the thinking man's Mini". So few about considering the huge numbers sold. I drive a Mini.......

Believe it or not, since I bought mine in April '07 I've only seen one other and that was in the Haynes Motor Museum last week! That's pretty rare considering it was Britain's best selling car for ten years!

I suspect that my be due in part to the rot that they suffered. My dad was telling me stories of the one his dad brought brand new which had the rear subframe fall out after 6 months due to rot!

His mate had a 1300GT, so we both got to listen to how fab it was.. Chronic rot killed the first one, persistant hydrolastic trouble and a LONG list from the MoT man did for the second. Being unable to afford a Marina, dad bought a lada 1200 instead. Didn't put me off, I've had several over the years. Bigger mini without the scene tax IMO

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Why the need to modify everything? Looks wonderful as it is.

I don't think my mate will be modifying it, apart from maybe stuff to make it more reliable, electronic ignition etc. I was just wondering if there were any modded ones about! He has joined the club today so hopefully he will be getting all the parts so we can give it a good service and tune up. Zapp and Ministrone those both look lovely examples
