I'm 100% sure this is a repost, because I remember seeing the thread on it, but I can't find it, so oh well. And I also remember someone asking to see the same spot now, to compare what people drove then to now, well, here it is!

Good point!
I often have trouble seeing my Golf in the car park at work because cars are not only wider but taller. A modern Golf looks huge next to mine.

Can't be bothered to do any work styling your next generation car? Focus groups got you by the throat? No problem. Simply find a football inflation pump, attach it to the previous model car and apply compressed air for extra bloat!
Cool pics. I've just spotted nearly all the models we had during that period. Can't see a Talbot Alpine though, can anyone else?

Good point! I often have trouble seeing my Golf in the car park at work because cars are not only wider but taller. A modern Golf looks huge next to mine. A modern Golf looks huge parked next to Buckingham Palace! It would appear that all manufacturers apply the bloat technique. The system seems to be that when you bring out a new model, you make it as big as the old version of the car next up the range. When you reach a stage where your supermini is the size of a Cadillac, you sneak a new small model in at the bottom of the range. In the 80s car makes had maybe 5 models. a small hatch (Fiesta, Nova), a medium to small hatch also available with boot (Astra/Belmont/Escort/Orion), medium to large hatch/saloon (Cavalier/Sierra), big attempt at posh (Grandad/Senator), and maybe a Coupe for novelty value (Manta, Capri). Now there are 15 cars in each model range.

First set are a repost, not seen the update picture though.
I've had the first picture as a desktop for longer than I care to remember.
Update picture is quite upsetting imo, not a single interesting car in there (Or even a retro).

If only I could pop back there and buy up all those "jalopy" mk1 + 2 escorts for a few hundred smackers, pop em in a barn for 20 years and retire on selling the rusted remains now. ;D

Check out all the different coloured cars on the pics from 1985 compared to the bland euroboxes on the updated pic! Dare to be different i think not... too worried about fitting in with the rest of the neighbourhood and re-sale values.
Also look how the old landy and the vw van on the first pics stick out and look massive compared to the rest of the cars but yet on the new pic you can barely spot the bigger 4x4s :/

Dare to be different I think not... too worried about fitting in with the rest of the neighbourhood and re-sale values. As those of you who have seen my "1500 miles of Britain's best roads" video will have seen, I drive a citrus green metalic car. I bought it new, it'll probably be the only new car I ever buy so I wanted it to be the way I wanted it. You would not believe the number of comments I had from grey people with grey little minds and grey cars about that colour. It's like they're scared of anything that expresses any individuality. Welcome to Audi-land, where we're all individuals. There are 5 colours left in the car-makers palette. Silver/grey, red, maroon, muddy blue and white. God help us!

Welcome to Audi-land, where we're all individuals. My dad is one of those grey people. He questioned my sexuality when I wanted to do my car yellow or green at some point.

from looking at the new photo, anyone else agree that the ford ka will one day be a sort after future classic? or at least retro. Not with a backside like that No, that's precisely why I think they will be a minor classic. The big has a use, it's still got the biggest boot out of any car in that class. I reckon in 8 - 10 years time almost all Kas will have disappeared - the standard ones will have a higher attrition rate than the Sport and Street types because 'fast' fords have always had something a following and people will be more inclined to save them. Then the odd one will appear, either totally mint or utterly decimated, a bit like seeing a Sierra or a Mk 3 Granada now, and everyone will come out with something like 'ooh I had one of them' or 'I banged me mrs for the first time in one' or, most likely, 'I had one of them, it rusted to f**k within five years around the strut tops and rear three quarter then the 3rd spark plug got stuck in the head when I tried to service it and I had to drill it out.' In terms of condition, bright or wibblepoo, three of the bumpers will be fine and one of the rear sections will be grey as ET in the river. So it's got a place in our social history of motoring as something ubiquitous but ultimately disposable. The way it disappears into the ether like most Fords is nothing unsual either. ;D

the newer shot of the car park contains nothing older than 1996 i think. The oldest thing i can see is the red mk 2 Seat Ibiza in one of the front rows, thats quite shocking to think that it contains only 10 year old cars, shows the durability of the modern (yeah shows that its rubbish!! lol) First two pics are how i would have my drive if it were big enough
