So I'm thinking of sticking a BMW M50 525i engine into the Superminx as part of the rebuild so decided to go looking for ideas, and well I thought someone might like what I found! M50 in crazy Volvo V12 in Omega! Crazy turboed M50 in another Volvo (what is it about Swedes?!) media.putfile.com/BMW-engine-in-a-volvoAnd a fiat with a BMW V8!!! Think this is my Fav So thats convinced me I need to stick a BMW engine in, but go on, convince me some more ;D

Okay not a BMW engine in another car but a BM engine not in the car it was intended for: That's an E30 by the way, count those fuel gobbling cylinders.....

E36 318is lump + 5-speed is prime for retro use... *n See, having mentioned them before, I'd love to use one as well but it's canted the wrong way! I mean, I know that could be overcome......but it just makes it more of a pain. Might as well put a V8 in if I'm going to have to deal with that side of the engine bay

^^^ thats the opposite but I'll let it slide since its so cool! And 318is is a nice engine, but not for a big british saloon. I'm aiming for refinement and "adiquate" power, Bentley/Rolls style So stright 6 it has to be ;D

Eighties 535i. 210-odd bhp and made from melted-down Junker JU-88s. They love to be force-fed too...The little sluts. *n

Cheating a bit since these photos are BMW engines... in BMWs! But they are being put into a much more retro BMW. My M50 which is going in here Even into a fellow BMW it is not without it's head aches. The servo on RHD E21s has to be removed, I haven't got this far yet but I suspect the tubular manifolds (from a 328i, 325i/525i have cast items) will have to be chopped and modified to fit around the steering rack, as the E30 boys do. I've also had an M42 (E30 318is, very similar to the E36 318is) in there, until I noticed the cracked head Here's a mate from over on bmwe21.net's E21 M42 conversion with some trick bits including lightened flywheel, coil on plug conversion and soon to be throttle bodies

E30 320i 3.5 - E23 730 - E3 3.0si - E21 316 M42 - E32 750i ETC

Eighties 535i. 210-odd bhp and made from melted-down Junker JU-88s. They love to be force-fed too...The little sluts. *n Because the M50 is a) a lot more efficent, it would be nice to be able to afford to drive it b) smaller, the minx isn't that big and I'd like it to look stockish body shape wise and not have to encroatch on footwell space etc. c) its so bloody heavy that it will be impossible to use the power in anything other than a straight line, and since its only 20bhp more powerful (M50B25 has 190bhp stock) it won't actually be noticeably faster. The idea is to build an enjoyable 4 door cruiser, that can have a nice turn of speed if you want to press on. So basically I want something with the performance of a 535i but using a lighter body and thus allowing for a downsized engine (so better efficiency) and in a much cooler looking body too rob0r - have you got a build thread as I'd be very interested in following this one!
