So, a chap called Mark turned up at my house today (Chichester, West Sussex) and left a flyer with my girlfriend for me... I guess he's the owner of the Retro Merc (300D ?) up the road...
Short intro: I'm an Automotive Electronics engineer for one of the big German owned British firms, spend half my life in the UK, and the other half in Germany. I've got a 'thing' for 70's and 80's BL/BMC metal - from Allegro's to TR7's and everything in between, but particularly the mid 80's MG/Rover Saloons I've also got a keen interest in fast Japanese stuff - but not to such an extent as the British stuff!
So... here's my Retro Ride:
It's a 1991 MG Maestro, 2.0 EFi 8v Single Cam O-series replaced with a 2.0l 16v Twin Cam M-Series engine (Rover 820 Vitesse). Condition is overall very good, a few dings here and there, and could do with some new clear coat in places but otherwise it's tidy. (No rust!!!). It's lowered 2", VW G60 big brake conversion and on MGF rims, and with about 145bhp it's a pocket rocket. Interior is a little shabby... but I'm working on that!!! Suspension and damper mods mean it handles to match.
I've got another Maestro hidden away in the garage: an, absolutely MINT , 1300cc (A-Series) kit car... it was a knock down kit destined for an assembly plant in Bulgaria in the early 90's - the project fell through and the kits got left in the UK. It's on an R-Plate but legally is a kit car. KM clocks but RHD conversion whilst being built (however vanity mirror is on the rhs, pedal mat in the carpet on the left... etc) The bizarre ride height is due to the 'eastern block' specification damper/strut combo, and coupled with the gearbox to match it's an absolute power house... up to about 30mph
Also in the fleet:
Nissan 300zx N/A Manual - It's a '91 J Import, that I organised into the UK myself (from business trip in Japan) pretty original except ECU tune up by MINE's and the aftermarket rims. (Sorry about the pic lifted from PH, it's currently for sale , and the only pic I could find from my work PC)
I'll try to come up to the Gathering '08 in the MG and meet a few like minded retro fans.
Dave.
ps. I like red - it's the fastest colour!
