this might seam like a stupid question but does any one make tyres with say 5mm profile shorter on the inside my car has a wee bit of camber and its sitting on the inner side walls they are blowing out before the tyre gets any were close to minimum tread

Yokohama have a patent filed for such a design of tyre, but I don't know of one on the market at the moment.
It may help to run higher profile tyres with lower pressures - the extra 'give' in the tyre means the wear is more uniform across the tread width. However, that's only my experience from a couple of examples so it may not be the case for the Evo.

Having tyres on a squint like that would counteract 90% of the effect of having the camber in the first place, which is to give a more even distribution of force over the width of the outside tyre when turning.
For this to work, the tyre has to have a lot more force on the inside edge when going straight, there is no way round it really.

I know lots of motorbike tires have dual compound (hard in the middle for when you're upright and soft on the edges for cornering...). Are any car tyres made like this yet, or isn't it widespread enough for the manufacturers to actually do it?

if that evolution has a tire-wearing amount of camber, you might as well say its a red car too. if the tires are wearing out on that car, its because its being driven hard on very soft tires, or because the toe-in/out is not set correctly. camber itself does little to wear out tires if everything else is set up right.

you can get trackday tyres with less tread on the inside of the tyre than the outside. BC had/has a set, really sticky but really expensive! is it all four tyres going or just the fronts? if its just the fronts I'd say the toe is too aggressive. I have about that ammount of camber (maybe more) on my 2002 and that scrubs the outside edges off on the front, but thats due to me pushing it too hard out of corners on track.

If you want tyres with less tread on the inside than the outside, I got lots.

lol pod ill take them at a reasonable price of course
yes the evo is driven hard on the track but its the amout of tread that is still left when the side way gives in

Camber can cause similar wear to toe.

I had a lot of neg camber on my Starion, it wore the tyres in about 4 months of daily use I fitted adjustable strut tops so i could adjust the camber, subtle for daily use, extreme for track/ fodder hunting use. The tops can be expensive, but figure that against tyre wear and it'll save you money in the long run plus a possible tug from from the law if you don't notice how bad the tyres get....

Camber can cause similar wear to toe. I would say does Every cortina i've ever lowerd has worn the inside edge of the tyres on the front, including the one i have now and that is set up correctly and has all new bushes ect

If its wearing them excessively then you simply have too much camber!

yes the evo is driven hard on the track but its the amout of tread that is still left when the side way gives in The only true way to tell if the camber is correct is by taking tyre temperature readings across the tread If you run sticky tyres and a Trackday suspension set up, but do one track day a month and spend the rest of the time doing motorway miles, then you are wasting Rubber... Fit some narrower, taller profile road rubber to another set of smaller Dia wheels for road use, you`ll be amazed at how much longer they last, how much more fun it is to drive on the road and how much cheaper they are to replace when needed as well Save the wide, low, stickies for the track and you`ll get a lot more life out of them ;D HTH Dom
