So its insurance renewal time on the daily modern - any pointers on a good reliable insurance company who don't charge a premium of several limbs. Also - plan is to replace the modern with a classic for daily use during the insurance period so I don't want to be stung by massive admin costs to change the policy. Thanks folks ;D

I'm with Footman James at the mo - who have been very good in the past - but the premium is starting to get a bit uncompetitive. They will change the policy to a classic one for a £15 admin fee which I thought was pretty good.
;D

I wouldn't have insurance if it wasn't a legal requirement. Anybody else agree?

Definitely don't go with Highway Insurance. I had a pretty nasty experience with them, and I think a few others on here have too.

Every year I trawl the web and get my best price then call A-Plan (brokers). They always come up trumps.
My classics / older ones have always been insured by RH but don't know what they will be like when I start modding it in the winter......

They are all as bad as each other, but from my experience avoid Equity Red Star like the plague.

HIC have been pretty good so far (though I do believe theres an admin charge for changes - not sure what it is yet.) They do agreed value, hardly any price difference for mods, and the woman I spoke to was UBER friendly They also have specialist insurance for almost anything you can think of www.hertsinsurance.co.uk

Well I'm calling Footman James in the morning for a quote - been with them before and they were very decent. Most of the classic crowds wont insure Northern Ireland what with the war and that which is a curse word

Avoid Churchill - they cancelled the insurance on one of my cars a few years back and didn't tell me. When I phoned up to see why they hadn't taken payment out of my account, they said it was because they'd cancelled my policy because they shouldn't have insured me in the first place - and also threatened to shop me for driving without insurance! Best insurance company?
Isn't that like everyone what their favourite venereal disease is?
That said, I just go on money supermarket or other comparison websites and go with the cheapest when shopping for moderns. If it's a classic, check and see if you can get a discount from Footman James or some other specialist insurer by joining the owners club.

Balls to that, quoted me almost double what I pay now for the MR2 with Adrian Flux. And thats before they realise its an import (no option on the form). Same here, my insurance from Lancaster was £260 Fully comp all mods declaired, road side Assistance and home start/recovery. I tried PerformanceDirect anyhow £730!!!!!!!!!!!!! with no Road side assistance - WTF for a 30 odd year old car. Its not like my postcode is pants either.

Footman James for me. Good quotes and lots of benefits too - Euro breakdown cover is VERY useful! The £15 admin charge is annoying though - they hit you whenever you make any change ie address etc. Does it really cost £15 to change an address and send a few bits of paper out?!
Oh and I've got unlimited mileage with business cover and I'm a journo - a great recipe for high premiums!
