Multiple pics of some of my favourite cars follow, so sue me. At least I bother to resize my pics to something sensible. Also it struck me it actually will have taken longer to resize, upload and post them here than I spent at the meet... but thats in part a factor of my extra shoddy PC and skinnyband connection. Meh.
'twas good to see the usual suspect in attendance, the East Mids Massive (and thats just Paul) - I think I spotted Golden Wonder leaving as I arrived - c'mon I'm not that scary - and some folks rolled in later in an E30 which looks like it belongs on here but it was parked right down the end of the field and I'm way lazy so I didn't go down and take a look/photo. I did consider driving down there - but even for a Cadillac owner thats just too much like extreme lardarse behaviour.
Those I did hook up with included Street, Benzboy, MGBGT36-28-32, Paul Mi16 and my chum Phill who does very occasionally lurk on here (him of the Delorean).
The Street Machine and a Chevanne I'm sure I recognise from somewhere.
Quote from someone who will remain nameless for now "I wonder what engine it is in it?" (Chevanne). What is my continued silence worth?
Nice beetle. I see one like this in the city a bit but I don't think its the same car?
If you have Corsair you should try Pantene. Just the job.
Stock 100Es are a crime against humanity. I love 'em, but rodded....
Jaguar Phalus
and the obligatory "arty" shot
Taken from behind
and the internal angle...
couple of RRers rides.
Just off camera is some chap telling his mate how the Mi16 engine "just drops in" to a 205. Uh huh, then after its hit the subframe, inner wing and you can't close the bonnet you realise its a bit more involved a swap than that, right?
First of two Z cars. Both Mk2s, both lovely and both very different approaches to the subject. And both getting full Akku approval.
delightful use of period add ons and tunign gear on the drop top vs...
Are those rear wheels wider than stock?
not the stock air filter I see?
Not the stock supercharged small block V8 either....
Note nitrous bottle stage left
B&M hammer shifter and monster tach....
Yo!
Everyone was snubbing the Mini
A Mini Rebel is like a Rockabilly Rebel, but smaller.
Benzboy considers this as the new look for his W115 which Eddie Large checks out under the bonnet.
One step on from stickers down the door
The definition of "bling"?
Oh, and if one more person says "Pound a photo lad" to me I swear someone will get a kick in the donkey. Its always north-notts types as well. Localised sense of "humour" I guess.
Tidy MGA
Phill's DMC.
Characteristic "doors open" pose
Now you know all those smart arze comments you get about your car? Imagine how many times worse it is if you own a Delorean...
Oh, the doors do shut...
I think theres something 16v under the hood on this MG but I cannot confirm this suspicion just at the moment.
I was pleased to see I was there in time for the traditional "Austin 7 cram game". Record set on the night was 4 people.
A coupe of the older guys looked horrified when this rolled in... ;D
ANd part of me wants to know what these two are saying. However I am pretty sure its something I've heard before about owning shares in a petrol company, passes anything but a petrol station, Boss Hogg etc. I have to say props to PaulMi16 for avoiding that one with his pish taking, as well all know JD Hogg's Cadillac is a 1970s 2 door convertible FWD Eldorado, not a 1980s RWD Sedan DeVille 4 door. I shalln't reveal what Paul has homed in on because it made me groan inwardly when he reminded me of the TV character who has the exact same make model and colour and very similar year. In fact it could even be the same car as I believe "his" was on false plates for filming...
Twilight triumphs
And a sweet Moggie Tourer
Cute little AH Sprite restored and rollin' on Penskis?
Hmmm....
Ooh
Ahhhh.....
This Jag rocked my world
Presumably a kit
He just can't leave it alone. Only thing to do is put a mouse trap down there Steve....
MGB motor
The yuppie picnic table?
Some of the guys brought these along to get me excited
And finally, possibly, this Mk2 Cavalier rolled up. The guy had only popped in for a pint and didn't know there was a classic event on. He seemed a bit taken aback to have his car (actually his wifes car) mobbed by salivating RRers coo-ing over its original dealer stickers, brown-ness and other such desirable features.
Its a 1.8i CD and yes, it is for sale. "offers". And he will be taking it to Billing for the Vauxhall rally (this weekend?)
Saddle bags!
original radio and periodish crook lock
RRers prepare to fight over it...
yes, it really is THAT clean...
Anyway, that was a marathon effort, so hope you enjoyed it and got a feel for the event. There were other cars there but a lot of them left early (wusses) and were mostly Porsches and TVRs and the like.
See you at the next one?
be there or, well, don't.
