seeing as there is such a wide spread of age group on here (I think) I was wondering what was the in thing to do to your car when you was the age of the average retroer now.. ie now the trend is for banded steels, lowering suspension and matt paintwork (very generalised but you get my drift) I am 34, when I was first driving the trends seemed to be for a green strip where your sunvisors are, fitting weller wheels, buying all those stupid things from the local motorfactors such as "commander" light bars for the rear window that had long strips of bulbs to show which way you was indicating and extra stop lights etc. CB was still big as well ! if you was really top you would also have some chrome under the bonnet and yellow HT leads!!! so what I was wondering, when you was 17-21 what was the trend with vehicles

hammering your forks straight after too many wheelies on your racer with cow horns, chrome 8 spokes or slot mags, Escort vans with brake lights under them, air horns, filing out the ports and upping the jets on a small stroke, slim skate boards, jumpers for goal posts.
those were the days.

Ill see if I can find the pics of it... I never really saw Fat Willy's stickers on anything but family cars and surfmobiles.. might have been a bit young tho. Was a Fast & Furious clone trend when I started driving, biggest wheels, biggest sound system, and uglies bodykit with stupid decals. Sad

ie now the trend is for banded steels, lowering suspension and matt paintwork (very generalised but you get my drift) Well i'm 17 and I drove this until i sold the wheels and suspension: I was cooler than cool. Now its a bit higher and on skinny steels. And yes, banded steels, very low suspension and matt paintwork.

LMAO When I was 21 I had a 2litre pinto tranny with gold graffiti all over it and a mkV escort spoiler on the roof! It was mint, had inflatable chairs and illuminated amps and subs in the back lol, Oh happy days. It was my first car after learning to drive in a Clio lol What was I thinking?

When I was 17-21, neons were all the rage. It was only 2-6 years ago.
What ever happened to neons. I kind of miss them. Its like a giant tw@t halo.

Well I don't think driving a black 'n' flamed car when I was 18 was particularly the in thing but I never was a trend follower As Pog said. Three spokes. Oh and splat graphics a little earlier.

I think indervijual Corsas were the trend when I was driving my Dolomite at 17. Thrilling stuff. I'll refrain from commenting on that matter further.

As per Pog really, Rieger kits where the bomb! As I think that at least 2 of the Max Power project cars around that time had them!

Lowering blocks on MKII Escorts. Twin tone air horns. Now, we were particularly different in Bexleyheath, removing trim was the thing, clean looking straight cars without tat glued to them. This was 1986!

Ah, splatter paint - yup, went through that phase... This had this interior Splatter paint dash, and horrible 80's 'Aztec' door covers. Delightful. Still, I guess I thought it was cool at the time...

When I was 17 (1996) I was busy driving my '70 MG Midget, but the cars to have at the time were the Nova SR, the XR3i/RS Turbo and the Renault 5 Turbo. If you were really 'wacky' (i.e. you were a wannabe hippy) you had a really tastelessly done purple or pink 70s Beelte with hiddeous matching interior!
Some things have gone full circle...the Nova SRs, Escorts and Renault 5s are now cool retros (if done right) but for a long time they were awful Max Powermobiles filled with Chavs (although we didn't call the Chavs back then).
