So.. I've got bike carbs (Keihin CVR 32mm) and I'm good to go with them.
But just as a final check... 4 x Keihin CVR 32mm <> 2 x Weber/Dellorto 40s
I'm aiming for probably less than 150bhp, but an engine that'll rev to 8-9k
I started a new thread so as not to derail the other bike carb thread... I don't give two hoots about mpg for my application.

32s will be a bit small for flowing 150bhp (or at least they would be on a bike - they'd generally be on 80ish BHP 600s) - you want 36s really if you're aiming for that sort of figure.
I'd go bike carbs, just 'cos they are cheap and easy to set up!

i say 40s too, as has been said, i think you will be pushed to flow 150hp through 32s.
lots more support around for 40s; and any pretty much any rolling road has the stock and ability to set them up properly for you (although, i don't know what bike carbs are like to jet; does everywhere stock the jets for Keihin's? i had heard that some bike carbs used the same jets as some webers.)
i was tempted to go bike carbs on the kitten; but the cost of the manifold made it pointless; its never gonna be fast, and twin SUs will provide an ample hike in power and be 100x cheaper for my aplication with added period looks bonus's.
if i was to be replacing the 40dcnf's on the ss1, i would go injection and throttle bodies instead of 45s or bike carbs.

Bike carbs FTW If my experience of fitting 40's to the Monza is anything to go by need to budget £666 for 40's (2/3rds what mine cost for tripple 40's)

I had heard that some bike carbs used the same jets as some webers.) I was tempted to go bike carbs on the kitten; but the cost of the manifold made it pointless; Weber DGV jets fit Keihins - well fit my R1 carbs anyway. Don't know what a standard kitten manifold looks like or costs but if cheap and the right ballpark shape, could you cut and grind a standard manifold about so you end up with 4 stub tubes at the inlet to which you attach the bike carbs by fuel-proof rubber hose?

Forgot to mention, any half-decent bike dealer will have bike carb jets in, they're generally about £2 each (or at least they are at my local places!). Just be careful not to mix and match hex and round jets - IIRC they have different numbering systems... www.wemoto.com sell them if you're happier ordering from the armchair

I need to establish if these are 32s or 38s ... I suspect they are 32s .. as they are the only Keihin CVR carbs I can find..
CR500Dom knows... I had it written down somewhere, but now cant find the note (Doh! Analogue technology).

I am nowhere near my other set to measure unfortunately, and they should be spot on for what you want Remember that Bike carbs have no intrusion (Other than the needle and unlike weber/dellorto sidedrafts) at what so 36mm will be ample From memory they start at 40mm and taper down to 36mm at the inlet side HTH Dom

Bike carbs do seem to be the obvious answer... its what i'm planning to fit on the Derby.... they are cheap & seemingly easy to fit & set-up - the next best thing to TBs. 40s on the other hand do look ten times better.... especially on a classic engine.. sometimes it seems the 'right' thing to do even though they'll cost more & be more troublesome to set-up & keep in tune? One thing I have heard that has put me off a bit - is that with bike carbs sometimes you get a 'cough back' where petrol is spat back out the inlets - which if your exhaust is hot can (& has caught fire) I'm guessing fitting sock filters or even fabing up an air box would eliminate this problem - & is probably a risk with any open inlet fueling system? BTW Hotwire - you have a PM

They are off an R6, 36s I believe...... Should be Keihin CVRD37 then, didn't know the carb model number before now. Sounds like they should be enough for me then. There is no way I'll top 150bhp and keep the capacity I have at the moment so if they are a bit smaller than 40mm I'm not too worried... Hell I'll be happy with 100bhp right now

The specs for the R6 carb have it written as : Keihin CVRD37 with TPS system. Whats a TPS system? Not a TLA I've come across before... only TPS I know is this one
