I have been planning in head my next car project, which will not happen until next year due to money issues I keep wondering about these style of wing mirrors - would they work on a MK1 Sierra? Does anyone know if that hits any problems with the construction and use rules? and does anyone care to play about in photoshop for me? ;D doesn't have to be exactly those mirrors they were just the first pic I found in the OOF thread as an example thanks

IIRC you MUST have 2 mirrors, and one of them MUST be on the drivers side wing/door...

I was more worried that regs might require the mirrors to be positioned where the door meets the A pillar as that is where all manufacturers seem to place them.

No, as far as I am aware, putting them on the wings is fine, as long as they are there and functional - i.e. in your line of vision. There also must be two funtional mirrors, drivers side mirror is mandatory, however you can have either a passenger side wing mirror or a centre mounted rear view mirror.

Metro City's came with one mirror in the late 80's. So I imagine the cut off date it '88 or so.

Yeah this is what I thought, my old 86' Transit had a drivers mirror, no passenger mirror and no rear view mirror and I never had problems with the MOT fellas nor the police!!!

Probably as you've said date related: However my brothers beach buggy, bassed on a 67 pan has NO side mirrors, just a rear view one.
The MOT man was going to fail it, so we made him look through the book, after half hour of debating it turns out it is perfectly legal and he had to pass it ;D
It could be due to the age or because it's classed as a kit car, but either way it still got the MOT.

Pre 78 only needs one mirror, the rear view.
After that you need rear view AND one wing mirror.
I don't think anything actually legaly requires 2 wing mirrors but not sure.

Don't put wing mirrors on a sierra, don't put any at all! looks amazingly slick!
In my country you're allowed to run without mirrors as long as there's nothing that interferes with your look backward, for example tinted windows. This work the other way too, you can paint your rear windows black as long as you've got 2 mirrors. But this is in finland...

I think chrome bullet style mirrors would work on that.
