At work, doing my usual casual trawling of the bay, looking for something that'll sit outside my house at night and I found this. I know it needs some work but...I've been in love with the P5 for ages...and that coupe is just perfect. The colour, the amount of chrome...all just spot-on, in my opinion. All it would need would be the rims painted black where they should be, the chrome buffed up a bit and a little lowering to get rid of that air in the front arch...nose-down stance...perhaps slammed all round and on juice... A grand to get it and get it on the road? *sighs* *n

If you can do the work yourself it would make a great project. Is it abit expensive?

I can weld, don't have the kit though (easily sorted). Money's tight at the moment. A combination of switching jobs and my girlfriend moving up from nottingham - had to support her until she got a job...she only gets paid tomorrow after working for 6 weeks which means I get a little money back. Need to give myself another 6-8 weeks to restore my bank balance before I can commit to something like this. Gah. bloody timing *n

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

I love P5B's. And it's a V8. Fantastic. Dunno where the guy got the £200 / year road tax figure from though!! ;D There's one that used to bomb around my area a while ago but the guy took it off the road and it's been sat ever since! Don't know the value of these motors but £700 might be a bit high? Not sure.....

Street Machine's first project car was a blue P5.
I was offered a free P5 V8 (non-coupe) for free a while back, loads of work done but not quite finished. As far as I know it's still there.

A mate of mine has got a P5b... ...that's it with our old P6. Lovely car! LOADS of room inside and lots of lovely luxury. Steering on his (power-assisted) is WAY too light for my liking, but the V8 burble is awesome When that photo was taken we did a lot of back-to-back driving of the two. The difference is quite remarkable, the P6 much more sporty and "modern". Must've made quite an impact and surprised a few Rover traditionalists at the time!

700 quid is a bit much for a banger to snaffle, no? *crosses fingers that, for some reason, it's still available in 2 months* *n

Shoot me down here, but I'd stay well clear of that one! With these old Rover's, the rust you can see is always gonna be the tip of the iceberg.
If you can, get yourself a good one to begin with - it'll be cheaper in the long run. About £3k should provide you with a decent one out of the classifieds in Classic Car Weekly or similar. Don't believe this guys hype that a top-notch car is £10k - yes a few toffee-nosed dealers will try and sting you for that, but wang down to the classic auctions and you'll see minters for £5.5k.
(Oh and you NEED Cragar's on of those, surely?)
