my bookmark went to a page of ads and curse word as well, had to search through retro car club for a link, that worked so resaved it as a bookmark, now working again. Jeez, after having found this place I wouldn't wish that on anyone! Sucks about the domain name though, I'll gladly chip in a few quid to save it.

Freakin' weird, whenever my domain names come up for renewal I get pounded by email reminders. And once, when I ignored the reminders, the domain registrar I use extended the domain 30 days as a courtesy while they snailmailed me! That's good service. But my reg is Network Solutions, and they charge real money for their services. I've heard horror stories about wanger skinflint services like godaddy, and this fits what I've heard. Thats the thing, I'm using a proper professional service... it should have renewed automatically... sadly they had the wrong card on file.. and I missed the reminder email as they were sending to my hotmail account and it was getting buried under spam sux0rs..

I'd see a barrister about this before it's all said and done, and I'm not gaffing you. You hired these folks to do a job, and protect your intellectual property rights. I think their duty rises beyond a mere few email attempts. They know where to send their mail invoices, yes? You've made a tremendous investment. A tonne of work has gone into it. "Fight the power." (Isley Brothers, from my home town) seconded. If you are lucky, legal fees would be lower than the cost of buying back too (don't we have a lawyer or two on board?) " This ain't no technological breakdown Oh no, this is the road to hell" sorry, its Chris Rea, but you try finding a relevent hometown music link quickly ;D

(Isley Brothers, from my home town) They've done everything they are required by law to do. It is my fault that I didn't take better notice of my hotmail or update my credit card. Just the way life is some times. All is not lost, we have the forum and at least one option for the site. Hopefully the 5day thing will work out. Have to change the Tshirts (will get new tshirts for those that bought the old ones).

I read about a guy who had his domain name nicked form under his nose by some curse word bag who then tried to sell in back to him for a massive amount, if I recall he gave the people who took it really bad publicity, to the point that they asked his to take it off their hands. I think the link was in a b3ta.com news letternot too long ago, I will keep looking for it.

It's bloody easy to let them slip. .com domains only need renewed every 2 years. Address, emails and credit cards all easily expire in that time. I created www.yournotme.com, which I spent ages on and at one point was getting about 50,000 hits a day. I only renewed it after they suspended it and I noticed the site was down and that was down to an old credit card. That was a major brown trouser moment.

Count me in for a contribution too, i really do think the domain name is worth fighting for as the main identity of the community.

Well theres enough traffic through here that if the 5 days thing doesnt work then we can spread the word Far and wide in a very short space of time As above David, count me in on a buyout if thats what it takes....

probably won't be expensive to buy back. I had something dis-similar happen with a work one. We checked registration status with some domains we wanted with our company name in them and amazingly, by the time I'd roused the finance dept to release the company credit card to book online for them, two were booked already by some fastwebsearchers.com type outfit. They offered both back to us for $19.99 which I paid one one but not on the other.
It smells a bit but for a tenner....
I dout a legalaction would do anything but burn up a lot of money to no result. Domain squatting laws vary from country to country and who's jurisdiction are you planning on this being tried in?
Someone mentioned $7.95 a year - if thats really wht the cost is it seems worth it to me.

I'd have one anyway, and if it helps fund the hostile takeover, all the better D
