I go away for two days and we pick up our first troll! Still it was funny scooting round seeing what w**k he'd posted on various threads!
Time to either ignore him or get HW to boot him though I think.

Nah, ban them, it's bad enough that I have to share a country with these arrogant little bampots (scottish word), without having to share an otherwise faultless forum with them!

I'm sadly uninformed as well, if I am going to join in and hate this person, where is the thread he offended on?
Persoanlly I think if people are banned it diminishes a forum, after all if some one is carrying on like a 2 bob watch, then it is enjoyable to watch the rest of a orum put these miscreants in their place with good use of language. Or using the same language to infuriate ant frustrate them into crawling back into their dark little crevaces...

forums.bit-tech.net18,952 members, will probably his 20k in a month or so... Unfortunately, all forums attract idiots/trolls/spammers. the number is dependant on the userbase and the topic covered. Being that RR has a relatively narrow userbase (the number of people interested in modifying old cars in interesting ways is a mere blip on the amount of people online) compared to the amount of people interested in a tech/modding forum. As such, RR has only just experienced a member of this nature. My view on such people is rather hardline: get rid of them. Either you sign up to be part of the community in a constructive and helpful manner or you don't sign up. In a forum of this size, it is possible just to let them be and let the regulars slate them and cut them down to size but in a large forum, they need to be disposed of quickly or else they overrun the place. Being a tech forum, bit also attracts people who just post referral/pyramid schemes (OMG!!! FREE IPOD!!! CLICK TEH LINK!!!!!!11ONE). This got to be such a problem that the registration page now has a large red warning. Even so, such people are reported to moderators by the general populous within 5 minutes and duely removed. Any more info? *n

thanks for the link, I will check it out. I think that if there is a regular disregard for the rules of a forum by a member then they should be diciplined, but it gets a bit right wing when the immediate reaction is banishment. I like to think that forums are places where all sorts of views can be expressed in a stimulating fashion. I also think that going off topic makes the place more multi dimensional and gives a broader insight to individual members.

thanks for the link, I will check it out. I think that if there is a regular disregard for the rules of a forum by a member then they should be diciplined, but it gets a bit right wing when the immediate reaction is banishment. I see where you are coming from. The problem is when these people sign up with the sole purpose to either spam, troll, pimp their website or advertise. Depending on the situation, a caution is often given and/or a suspension for a few days however when somebody signs up and their first three posts consist of 'FREE IPOD PHOTO! CLICK THIS LINK!', they get banned without hesitation. They never intended to be a part of the community and only signed up to use the gullability/naivety of others to make a profit. Would you not agree that the correct course of action in this case would be to ban the user and delete their threads? Again, I agree. bit-tech is a tech site. It also has a very large 'general' area within the forums with general discussion, motors, bargain bin, music film & tv and gaming forums. These sidelines allow the forum to establish a strong sense of community and grow. RR is run in a slightly different manner, where the 'general' forum is very much dedicated to the topic at hand and, although threads will quite often derail, the strong community sense and the shared interests of it's member base always contribute to the thread staying within the realms or 'retro-rides'. Please understand that this is not slating RR, merely explaining the differences behind community structure and Admin 'vision/guidance' in a blunt manner. *n
