Ok, so my gf's old car is this It's a 1979 mk1 polo with a genuine 26000 miles, all MOTs from new, original bill of sale the lot. Thing is, it's been stood a couple of years and is very much looking it's age. It falied an MOT today on both outer sills need a patch at the back and the front floor pan also needs a touch of welding. Front wheel bearing and both cv boots are split (didn't think that was a fail?) Anyway, she'd be chuffed to bits if someone gave her 50 notes for it in it's current state. I was just wondering if anyone thinks it's worth (a) putting the work in, MOTing it and selling it for more or (b) sticking it on the bay with it's failure sheet and seeing what it makes Apparently, while it was at the garage someone who brought a beetle in was asking if it was for sale, but that was before it failed. He's coming back later and he'll be asked how much he's willing to pay for it I didn't like it at first, but the more i keep seeing it the more i like it, starting to wish i'd invested my money in that instead of my cortina i recently purchased.

I'd patch up the sills and the floor, can`t be much more than an afternoons work. CV boots are a piece of pi$$ and you could do the wheel bearing while its all apart. I reckon you could do it in a weekend. You could also paint the wheel centres and bonnet black too

jesus, sweet car, you just gotta have the vision for it.
I've just been given a MKII Coupe S, MOTless too, and I paid nothing for it, the MKII's have little or no value, and neither did the MKI's till recently (I'm hoping the MKII's follow suit).
If that where mine, I'd MOT and clean it, detail and clean the engine, ATS Classics, wide, with offset, stretched tyres, and coilovers, on the deck.
With my MKII, I'll clean it, detail it, slam it and then get some wide 13 or 14" euro style rims and stretched tyres. I'm trying to do this on the cheap though.
Black bonnet optional.

I'd defo do the work - a few patches and a CV boot is nowt really. I think it's a really nice car, and values are definitely upwardly mobile!!

Do it! Fix 'er up! Much more fun than the '97 Polo I've been driving today. In fact I'd offer you a p/ex if it wasn't the missus' car!! Bit of smoothing, a lot of lowering and a lick of paint...loverly.
Plus they're damn near indestructible in my experience (most of which was gained as a passenger in a mate's Mk1 Polo when we were 17!) Change down into 1st at 20mph....change up to third when it won't rev any higher...repeat for 50,000 miles!

Tart it up, Advertise it on all the Vdub related websites vzi, porka, pvw to name a few Or take it to the undesirables meetings at most of the VW events this year and you will SO be making more than £50 !!! , nearer £700 the way the current market is going.
People are SCREAMING out for quality motors like that......................
