That's a pain in the !! I still have a soft spot for these and wish I'd bought one a few years back when I had the chance. One day maybe........... Cracking looking motor there mate Indeed it is a pain in the rear! Yep, it looks good from about 20m away I think if I keep it, it'll get a full stripdown and rebuild! Better get the van done first Loving your fleet, miss my old 190E, was a great car!

Oh FFS indeed! Sorry to hear about the issues....it's one of the things I really hate about buying off eBay, you never know how truthful or accurate the seller is being. I really hope you get it sorted Dude? Just think, pretty soon (hopefully) you can just get in, turn the key, stick it in gear, hit the loud pedal and hoon away to your hearts content. Fingers crossed for you Pete.

The guy actually isn't that far away so hopefully he'll have some of the right size and I'll take the Escort for a spin at the weekend. Fingers crossed. Hooning? Yep, hopefully at the Marham track day! Otherwise I'll have to beg Denise to let me take the Escort Sorry to hear of the trials and tribulations Pete, but it'll be worth it when you're flying up the hill in August Cool! Happy with em? Yep, mine was a struggle to get into the garage Luckily it didn't need to spend much time in there!! Had a reply from the guy on eBay, and he's happy to look at the other driveshafts he's got so that's a result. Hopefully he has one that's the right size and we'll be good to go! Fingers crossed.

Yep, and that's who I got it off pretty sure that's who I go the arches off of as well, and he's in Lowestoft, so a nice run out over the weekend. Thanks Chas, yep, it's done a few miles this year, and booked in for Marham so it'll get a good thrashing then! And we're bringing it to the gathering as well ;D the Escort is going to start feeling left out!

Right, picked up some new driveshafts, popped up to see the seller in Lowestoft (nice Easter Sunday drive out in the pouring rain ) and he thinks they were machined down XS shafts. Measured them up with my trusty Lidl digital micrometer and the new ones look to be the right size. I'll fit them later, hopefully that will do the trick

Done. Driveshaft slotted staright in, hub slotted straight in, in fact it's the easiest it's ever been ;D Mind you, I've had a bit of practice. Ian (escortbuffy on eBay) sorted me out the right driveshafts, yep, it was a run up to Lowestoft, but it was quicker and easier than mucking about posting stuff backwards and forwards. Lovely bloke, passionate about his cars, he has a couple of 205's, an mi16 and GTi 6 being uilt and a 2.2 pinto powered Mk 1 Escort. Anyway, all sorted now, took it out for a spin, clutch bite was pretty low and after a few miles it was starting to get a bit crunchy going into gear. After meeting a Police pickup coming round a sharp bend, me with a manic grin, him with a scowl, I thought it time to head back home. Had a quick look at the clutch cable and the locknut had come off, so it was working its way loose. That'll be me not checking then Tweaked it u and went back out. God it's a laugh ;D It'll be getting cleaned tomorrow and a long awaited polish. Then onto the van Oh, I'm bringing this to the 8 Ball next week, hopefully there'll be a good turnout.

Indeed it is BC, gutted it won't get a run out at Marham, still, it's the weekend before we go away and I had a niggling worry about it breaking down and trying to get it back home the day before I fly out (which would have been a Sunday ) Hopefully I'll make the September one. yaaay, nice incentive for blowing off life and visiting the 8ball, thanks dude ;D Well, I look forward to catching up mate It hasn't been cleaned yet, let alone polished. It might by next week though. At the moment it looks like this With a lot more filler dust on it!!The van is getting the love now

Well, I'm taking this to the 8 Ball tonight so thought I'd give it a tidy up and a clean. Hosepipe ban? Use a watering can;) (And it was raining so that got rid of the soap!!) Cleaned and polished Still need to fix the lower valance, I have a new one, but haven't decided how I want it to look yet. Fixed the badges (I'll stick up how when I get the pics off of my phone) Still missing a 1.6 badge New stickers I made a new badge for the steering wheel as well, didn't like the Ripspeed one. Peugeot lion with a GTI underneath! I'll find a better picture later. Anyway, It's chucking it down so cleaning it was all a bit of a waste of time really And it leaks round the windscreen in the rain. I think I'm going to get wet later Thanks for looking in. Pete

Well, we made it to RRG 12. Just! The car was fine all the way there but died right on the top of the hill outside Prescott. I managed to coax it off the road, have a look, get grief from one of the blokes who lives uo the hill (apparently it's a private road.....) I did tell him that I had in fact broken down and that we weren't just looking at my 'awesome' engine build (what an ) and after much head scratching we pushed it onto the field and abandoned it. Fast forward to Saturday and Tonylancibeta offers to have a gander at it. Going way beyond the call of duty he sorts out a new rotor arm and dizzy cap and even goes into town to pick them up for me (what a legend ;D ) We fit them and unbelievably it works a treat and even though we missed Shelsey Walsh, it means I'll be able to take the car up the hill ;D I queue up and am the last to get into the morning session! Thanks Tonylanciabeta 4 runs later, I'm grinning from ear to ear, but the sticking brakes (that have been around for a TBH have become a lot worse which made for an interesting hill climb!! Having a breather after a hillclimb ragging ;D We head home without any dramas, even though we sit in traffic for a bit on the M40. Home, and I've achieved "Part One" of the 205 mission; Get to RRG 12 and take it up the hill. "Part Two" is a track day and I'm booked into a Javelin one at Woodbridge, not too far from home, on Sat the 8th Sept. (Yep, that is indeed next weekend ) So, the mission is to sort out the brakes. I think it's the servo that's gone so after nearly choking at the cost of one new, I head onto eBay and but one complete with pedals (I don't need them, but nothing wrong with having a few spares is there ) The added drama is that I snapped a bleed nipple on my brand new calipers when I last had it all apart, so I need to attempt a repair........

So, brakes! What a ballache First off I had to drain off the reservoir. The HBOL suggests the use of a syringe, but it's not exactly something I have lying around so after a bit of a search I found a squeezee bottle that anyone who's served in the Army might recognise stuck a bit of windscreen washer hose on and voila! Fluid out, I removed the master cylinder and the servo. Sounds easy when you say it like that doesn't it? Well, it wasn't It was a PITA. Still, the new one arrived so I gave it a quick rub down and respray in gloss black and set about putting it back in! Actually, after a bit of faffing around it went in OK (the trick is to bolt the servo to the bracket that holds the pedals/bolts to the bulkhead before it bolts to the bulkhead. The bolts will NOT fit from inside) With a new master cylinder back on I tried to refit the old reservoir. Err, maybe not. I had some advice to 'use a bit of force' but no matter what I tried I couldn't get it to sit on properly. In the end the old one went back on...... Fingers crossed that wasn't the problem in the first place Onto the brake caliper. Here's the problem I used heat, brute force, ingenuity and more heat but in the end it came down to the pillar drill. I drilled the old nipple out and rethreaded it for a new one which was a size larger than the original. New one ordered and fitted I connected it all back up and crossed my fingers. Which was a pointless exercise in the end. It leaks! So, I had a look at new ones and by fook they are expensive. Searching the 205 Gti owners forum I found a guy with a full 1.9 setup for sale for less than a single caliper. It's all on its way and I'll be fitting just the calipers on the original 1.6 discs. So I'm sat at the door waiting for postie....... Oh, while I was trying to do this and to give me something else to do instead of starting smoking again when it didn't quite go to plan I made a garage radio Pretty happy with it even if I do say so myself.

I had the exact same issue with a brand new master cylinder that I had bought from Spoox (it was going cheap). Nobody could work out why it wouldn't fit!

Well it came from a certain supplier that starts with G, and has gone back to them!! Hopefully the old one is still good, but worst case the new 1.9 setup has a master cylinder with it
