Hi
I am so glad you got that engine running its a sweet little lump isnt it. I have been watching the progress and seeing it up and running again is really curing my lunk. I have set myself a deadline of christmas to get my engine out.
I have been toying with the idea of plastic windows, where did you get the lexan? was it expensive. I was toying with just white acrylic as my 205 has a white bonnet (Red body) but though it might look a bit naff???

Mine broke down at a petrol station too oddly enough a month ago after a 2 month slumber! In my case it was down to the fuel pump Tachometric relay. The strange thing was that once running the relay would allow the pump to run, but not when starting. With the new item fitted it now starts with ease, even priming the pump when I first turn to no.2 (It never did that before). Great to see you are getting your mojo back for the car .

Just got myself a french peasant spec 205 I can now see why you've kept yours through the trials and tribulations. My 945 is fun to drive and I can only imagine that this must be a hoot, maybe you shouldn't get shot for a shonky 2 door tina after all ;D

Cheers chaps, just checking in from Canada. The cars are all safely locked away from the salt and general nastiness this time of year brings So, 205turbo, I actually got the lexan from eBay, it wasn't that much I don't think (it's been sat in the garage for a while!) it's 5mm thick and has worked a treat. I don't know that it's a huge amount lighter, but the old seals never, erm, sealed properly after i removed the interior so at least it's stopped any leaking! Chas, I've thrown on the battery from the van and it seems that the old one just wasn't up to spinning the engine enough. Fingers crossed it seems to be ok now. Will, nice purchase, looks to be a good one s well? Apart frm the nice dink on the side that is!! Yep, fun doesn't quite cover it! It'll be staying until the Gathering next year now, Denise doesn't think it's right that I get rid before I get the chance to take it up the hill!! Sounds good to me. It still has a clunking noise on faster left hand bends, so I had a quick crawl around it the other day. The only thing I can see is that the grease has leaked out of the CV gaitor on the drivers side as it doesn't seem to have been sealed properly, so that's a job for when I get back in the new year. Have a good one all. Pete

Well, even though we're going away for a few months I thought I'd throw this in for an MOT before we go. Otherwise it would end up in the garage again without one and we all know what happens to my cars when their MOT runs out....... So it failed of course, but only on the fog light tell tale, a quick fiddle and it was done! I am well chuffed ;D It still makes a horrible clonking noise when it goes round left hand bends so that needs sorting, but I think we just might be bringing it to the gathering!!! Here it is outside the garage, in the rain, leaking It's outside because I thought I'd renew the bushes on the Golf! Why oh why did I do that Edited for curse word typing!!

Right, so I got a couple of driveshafts off eBay and today after finally sticking the new alloys on the Golf I fitted a new one on the drivers side. It was actually pretty painless, but I have had a bit of practice on that front Fixed a coolant leak from the heater pipes as well and thought I might as well go for a spin. Started up fine, stuck it in gear and..... Nothing. No movement at all. WTF? Jacked up the front so both wheels were off the floor and played around with the clutch cable and still nothing. Any ideas? The driveshafts looked a bit different but were the same length and slotted in fine! I'm at a bit of a loss! Oh, thanks for the nice comments guys, it does my head in but I do love it!

not aware of there being huge differences between shafts on the 205, but is the end that fits in the hub slightly different to the one that came out? and is the bearing carrier done up with the bearing pulled in to the gearbox? may just be the shaft not fully home in the gearbox ;D is the random knock from the front or back? had a few pugs with the rear antiroll bar brackets not attached

Pretty sure that the ends were the same, they were advertised as diesel/1.6 GTi driveshafts? Done the hockey stick bolts up tight and no leak from the gearbox output. Knock was from the front on left hand bends, I'll check the anti roll bar next time I'm in the garage though, thanks for the info.
Wheels turn by hand and driveshafts with them!

I had this when I fitted new shafts from ECP last year, couldnt work out what was going on, thought the shafts werent in far enough or the diff had colapsed, finally pulled them back out and compaired them with the old ones, the were the right length but one drive spline at the diff end was significantly smaller than the old one, hence no drive, was less than amused as you can expect!

Hope that's not the case with this one, I'll be a bit hacked off! Wouldn't the passenger side still turn though? Guess I'll have to take it all apart again then God, this car does my head in sometimes

Well, I dragged myself out to the garage early this morning as I was a bit pee'd off about the whole driveshaft saga. Here we go again, so oil out, wheel off, hub nut off (car up,down,up, down and up!!) hub carrier off of the shock and the (the name escapes me ) Driveshaft out and guess what? Yep, Monty had it in one. Different fricking sizes So now I guess I need to go back to the seller and see if he has any the right size (26mm not 24!) Exasperating is the word!
