17 days to go..... Action at last! Usuck spent a fair while fitting as much of the inside as possible up to the front seat crossmember. Once home, I got busy with the welder and put the final welds into place, one in the passenger footwell and nicked Metromon's idea for removing the LHD wiper mount. Now nice and smooottth. Got the exhaust totally buttoned up and the front brake pipes are in da house at last so they will be on soon. Thermostat housing needs re-tapping for the new bolts then that can be fitted, the coolant filled up and once a new battery is fitted, its test time again!
BTW, can anyone furnish us with a set of MG Metro rear side cards and bins? Ours have gone AWOL as have the inner sill trims.... I'll have a scout around our local scrappies this weekend....

BUT, I've had a look at Metromon's little beast and the old grey matter has been churning..... could be some minor detailing going on before blast-off.... Hmmm - looking forward to seeing what this involves ;D

16 days to go..... Usuck was busy taking the MG stickers off the doors and the 'carbon fibre' panel off the tailgate. Also buttoned up the exhaust, only to have me p*ss him off by announcing its got to come off again because its bent and rubs on the subframe (not a happy camper..!). A Metro VDP will donate some more minor engine bits tomorrow which should mean filling up with water and a test run after the exhaust is done. Also the brake discs/pads are going to be changed for better ones....

Lets see some footage then! Give me 'til after this weekend, mate! 15 days to go..... not much achieved today, mainly because muggins here ended up acting as taxi for most of the family... Anyway, got some bits off the VDP and bolted up the thermostat housing (don't know what muppet decided to use bolts to fit them with....), filled with water and spent some time drowning Usuck while he looked for leaks (hee-hee-hee!). Once fully sorted, started up and allowed to warm through - until the petrol ran out, anyway. Finished off the windscreen surround so thats going back in tomorrow (yipee); the wiper motor has decided not to join the party so that needs attention and the brakes still need doing. Its getting there....

14 days to go.... much, much better progress today. Engine starts and runs at last, but still needs sorting out (won't run below 2000 rpm and won't rev above 4000rpm - methinks carb is gummed up....), exhaust fits without clouting subframe, old brake calipers off and one 'new' one on (the other has had the bleed nipples die in it...), clutch is OK, all the dials and the speedo OK, the wiper motor still won't play but at last the windscreen is back in on its new rubber. New gaskets in the thermostat housing... and a new vac advance pipe fitted after the other 'fell off'. Wings are off again to access the brakes better; the next time they go on properly will be it, once on not coming off. Usuck is planning to fit the front interior bits tomorrow along with the gearstick brackets and gaiter, then start sorting the door cards. I've got to find some more trim that has gone AWOL but I think a quick trip to the not-so-local scrappy will come up with the goods. As an aside, I've been looking at a local garage who deals in 'old nags' just in case the GTa isn't ready.... 1989 Merc 190 for under £200 with short T&T is tempting.... BTW, I do have pics on the camera, it just won't talk to my PC properly............

12 days to go..... Guess what, it's p*ss*ng down again...... Anyhoo, I've decided to have a shot at getting the u/s bleed nipples out of the o/s caliper.... carb needs stripping and the cr@p cleaning out - had a chat with a virulent Mini owner today at work and IF it isn't prepissitating tomorrow, work is in hand to get the engine running. Hmmm, wheel nuts.... where are they...?

10 days to go... Okay, what happened to 11..... well, spent a good hour or two clearing copious quantities of crud out of the carb and freeing off the jet, start up, get a good mix, good idle and 6000rpm when warm.... also order a 7x1 tap for the calipers and found the cooling fan was clobbering part of the wiring loom.... Oh, then troll off to The Angel at Larling to meet with some other like-minded lunatics.....
Anyhoo, today. Go to Norwich, pick up said 7x1 tap from engineers factors, go to SCA and get 16 x 3/8 wheel nuts (mmmmm, shiney....) and some brake pipe locknuts (as NOT supplied by factors....), then drive home. Usuck grabbed the locknuts and made a start on the n/s caliper whilst I drilled and tapped the bleed screws out on the other - mishun successful! Usuck bolted up o/s caliper and fitted AP pads. Sort rear bleed nipples, tidy some pipework, spray a couple of odd patches and then give up 'cos it wuz dark and cold. Aim for weekend - drive it around the garden and stop it (oh, and cure the water leaks....)

8 days to go...... Despite weather warnings of armageddon approaching, Usuck and I layed into the Metro with gusto. Fit front seats, secure rear brake pipes and handbrake cables, screw on rear bodykit, bleed braking system, scratch head at peculiar electrical faults, fit new front lights, FIT WHEELS.... pump up tyres, LOWER TO GROUND, watch as suspension sags lower, and lower (looks cool actually), then FIRE UP AND MOVE IT! Yes, only 3 metres but its a start! Brake pedal feels a bit dead so may have another go at bleeding the system again. Anyhoo, bolt on front wings and celebrate! Only got an MOT to pass and we're there ;D Pics and footage later.

7 days to go..... someone dropped the Atlantic Ocean on us today, but still some progress was made. Sorted out why the wiper motor didn't want to play, still at a loss why the brake lights have gone AWOL... Sunroof needs a 'permanent' seal for the winter, otherwise not too damp for and old car in a monsoon..... Pics: How the week started...... Iffy roof section.. Rear seats in though.. Front not bad.. Roof now tidied up.. Thermostat housing buttoned up Scuttle details.. Going no-where fast! Usuck fitting calipers Windscreen in, nearly ready! Rear alloys... Seats in... The Gta has landed! Present state of play There is a short vid, but Photobucket was playing sillybeggars so that can wait until later. List of 'To Do's Stop lights Numberplate lights Reassemble dashboard Fit wings properly Tidy and paint underside Bleed brakes again Fit bodykit to front Fit rear bumper properly Seal sunroof Carpets Gearstick gaiter and centre console Wiper blades Indicator repeaters Fit bonnet Secure battery Test wash/wipe Fit door cards and trim Test Run MOT PRAY! ;D

4 days to go....
Usuck bolted the front seats back in and successfully cross-threaded one of the bolts, tearing the captive nut off. He now knows, unequivocally that cleaning front seats IS NOT AN MOT JOB and shouldn't have done it.
Anyhoo, steels have been fitted to the front but he'll have to do the rears tomorrow as Mr MOT don't like odd wheels.... (the alloys leak too much but will be off to a friendly tyre place tomorrow for fettling). Indicator repeaters fitted and tested. Windscreen washers tested OK New wiper blades on N/S door 'adjusted' Door sill trims fitted All lights tested again.....
She's off to a Mini-friendly garage tomorrow for tuning, a pump-up (the local ex-Rover dealership no longer has a Hydragas pump....) and MOT.... the only real concern I have is the brakes still feel 'dead' after two bleeding sessions and the alternator is making some wierd noises...... too late now. Wish it luck!

Wow, busy people - I felt I had to read the last few pages of this thread reallyfast to get a sense of the timing here!
Hope all goes well Friday, and roll on Sunday...
If it's any consolation, I'm only one day ahead of you - been working frantically on the Benz in preperation for Marham the last few weeks, and it's in for MOT this afternoon. Still can't get a good brake pedal on mine either, and after pumping 4 litres of fluid through, I know there are no bubbles left in the bloody system! Seems to stop OK though...
Good luck, and see you both at the weekend.

Cheers Chris! 3 Days to go....... Well, thats it, I can do nowt more. Four steel wheels on for the MOT, insurance turned up today, dragged it out of the back garden where it has lived for over a year and after fuelling up, off we went. Rides and handles lovely, engine nice and sprightly, but brakes still dead and clutch slipping like a Bambi on ice (I hope this is just lack of adjustment....). Now to await the 'phone calls and bill.........
