Right.....so my little van ( 1964 HA Bedford) is finally going to have much needed cosmetic surgery to improve it's fading looks -- primarily new front wings, new sills & a facial peel, aka re-spray. It'll look good, but it's just not fast enough! So,while it's in "Dr P's" surgery,I'm thinking about changing the engine for something with a tad more oooomph & am scratching my head about what lump to look for.
I'm a bit of a purist and I confess,I worship at the altar of the Blue Oval of Ford. In my opinion,a Mk2 Escort with ,for example, a Peugot engine, isn't a Ford Escort...it's a Peugot in a posh frock, which would make any non-Vauxhall/Bedford engine inadmissable due to having the wrong pedigree. I want something I can pretty much just drop in,I'm not into having to reshape the engine bay.
What do you lot think? Suggestions please!

One of Nitemares' mob has a Zetec'd HA, it's a tight fit, but it's in there. There was a blown V6 motored on at wheels day too.

Just re-read your post...an XE would work or if a smaller engine is preferable a smaller OHC Vaux lump could go in...not unlike Mattblack's Sceptre.

Is a Zetec a Vauhall engine? NO!
Pehaps you missed the part of my post that says .."any non-Vauxhall/Bedford engine inadmissable due to having the wrong pedigree. "

Perhaps a 3.0l Senator lump? Or a Calibra lump? No idea how feasible these would be though!

An ecotec engine is a better bet than an XE because 1. No porousity(sp?) issues 2. Can be picked up real cheap anywhere and 3. Due to the narrower heads it is much easier to fit in cramped engine bays. JOB DONE.

Most of the Nova boys that go for big power drop the 2.0 Red-Top in which i'm thinking is the XE, am I right? These motors can also be turbo'd to awesome effect, this conversion has produced some of the fastest fwd cars in the country.

Hi all!
I really must distance myself from the uvver 'arf's outburst, brought on by a very slow uphill journey in the HA to the house!!!

don't use the 1800 or 2300 from the magnun 2 slow 2 hevey & 2 under powerd, just dumped mine and put a modern engine in far better.try 2.0 gte engine and wiring etc fitted to a rwd box(carlton mk2 cav etc) shorten the prop and a manta/cav mk1-2 back axle sounds a lot of work it did to me on the firenza but boy was it worth it.
