I've been collecting parts to build one of these:
Taken from here where there's loads more pics
I was hoping to go racing this year but unfortunately engine disasters with my other car and the imminent loss of workshop access means I've got to abandon it so the parts are for sale
It's a great race series, cause it only costs £50 for the year's membership and there's no more entry fees or anything. I drove some of the cars at Brafield in Northampton and they were great fun, even with only 1172cc, cause they weigh nothing and slide brilliantly.
And you get all the fun of building a hot rod without any of the bother with lights, windows dashboards etc
I can help with some advice on building the car, pics, regs, tuning
info that kind of thing. It really shouldn't be that much work or money for some one who can weld - especially if you can get someone to bend the roll hoops for you and you make your own seat.
there's more info about the series at www.briscaheritage800.co.uk and
the cars can also race in a Spedeworth series as well.
And it might be possible to get a run at the Hotrod Hayride as well.
(by the way, this isn't classic banger racing...)
Here's the bits I've got:
Good Pop Shell, doors, bootlid, grill and bonnets (no V5!)
Here's the shell after it was taken off the car - I'll try and get pics of all the panels but they're very good, only the bootlid needs some real work:
An old Pop chassis (it's been cut to throw in a scrap bin, but it was done cleanly so it'll be fine for this once the rest of the frame is there, as the heritage cars use 40mm box section running through the middle of the frame for strength so the chassis doesn't really do that much!)
Front and rear axles, brakes and steering and suspension, including good lever arm shocks all from a Pop
pop gearbox
Two 100E engines, both a bit of an unknown quantity but both were said to run well when removed from cars, so one should go!!
100E steering gear, (which is supposed to be better but I don't know
why, I think you put the longer Pop steering arm on the 100E box and
get a better ratio and less slop. The other racers are a helpful bunch
so they'll explain).
Vintage 2 gallon Shell petrol can (these are modified to be used as
fuel tanks if you want to be one of the cool gang)
8 pop wheels and 2 Porsche 356 wheels (like the wide 5 VW wheels) -
the Porsche wheels will go on the back, but you have to cut out the
centres of the pop wheels and weld them into 13" rims for the fronts
facet electric fuel pump and pressure regulator
Battery cut off switch (new)
£250 for the lot which is a lot less than it cost me. The shell and panels are good enough to make a rod so I might split but there's no V5 and I spent so long tracking this stuff down I'd really like it to go to someone making a racer.
