When I left school I went on the YTS, my placement was a local Peugeot garage. one of the mechanics had an 818, 'P' plate if I remember right. I DO remember every panel was rotten..... Weren't they also called 'Capella' (sp?) or something? Or am I in my usual confused state?  |

That Mazda is cool. I must admit to never having seen one, or even knowing they existed, until this post! Didn't sell either  - If a had a grand in my sky rocket I'd buy it (but it would have to be modded, regardless of it being totally mint  - I rotary would be luuuurvely in there ;D) |

capella's were the same as the RX2 shape, whereas this is the same as the RX3 shape. over here they're badged as 808's rather than 818's, don't know why? heaps more common over here too although its getting rare to find ones that haven't been converted to rotary. that scene is alive and VERY well in NZ, it seems like most of the 70's toyota's have been bought up and converted to rotary too although i'm probably getting a little bit carried away. heaps of potential though for this one, here's one already converted and looking goooooooodddddd, as in drooling good:  i can dig out some more pics of NZ rotaries and old mazda's if anybody's interested? cheers Matt |

a nice one-owner maz 818 sold on ebay a couple of months ago for 350 notes making that one seem a bit pricey. Must be nigh-on extinct though.

Confession time....When I first started at my local Mazda garage as an apprentice (about 12 years ago) they had a clear out in the stores, and filled a skip with old body panels that they "were never going to sell" it was mostly obsolete panels from the 70's and 80's including an RX3/818 nose section, doors, bonnets and wings etc plus early RX7 panels and loads of other Stupid rare bits like rear valences and wheel arch panels>  I so should have filled my dads garage up with that lot  |
