Hi all,
With regret, I'm going to have to sell my M535i. I've bought another e28 and frankly my girlfriend is going to skin me if I don't shift the old one sharpish.
Bad bits first - Bodywork is not great to be honest. Various scuffs and dents, plus the paint has faded in places. Theres a little bit of rust bubbling through the front wings and the bonnet is very stonechipped at the leading edge. Rear bumper is damaged as well and has a small hole in it. Car has steering wobble at 50 -60 mph, but whilst its annoying its hardly undrivable. Slight play in steering as well, could be adjusted out, but it never really bothered me. Also gearlinkages are a little tired, but again, I got used to it and it slots into gear fine, never pops out or gives any trouble.
Windscreen wipers have recently started playing up, but I'll sort them out.
Good bits - Car is mechanically great. I've done 10,000 miles in her over the last year and she has never let me down. Engine pulls fantastically well, revs cleanly and has no misfires or other issues. Car recently made 216bhp at the rolling road day and the fueling was absolutely spot on. No overheating, sits in traffic all day and is happy enough. Gearbox is good too, no crunching noises or nasty sounds, slots into gear nicely and doesn't pop out.
Interior is generally good, if you pulled it all out and gave it a good clean it should come up lovely. No drivers bolster wear either!
She's got a new (secondhand) exhaust system centre section and all the exhaust manifold has been replaced as the old one was blowing. I replaced the waterpump last summer as well as a precaution. Also had a new windscreen last winter.
Apart from the scabby looks, the body is structurally sound. Had a tiny bit of welding to the jacking points for the MOT and the garage checked under her and shes straight. Inner wings seem good and to be totally honest, this shell is probably slightly better than my new one!
I've lowered the car on Spax springs all round, 40mm drop. Tyres are good all round, shes wearing 15" e34 BBS rims. I'll include the metric rims as well for originality's sake.
Car has covered around 210,000 miles. I've had to replace the dash clocks however, so they're showing around 128k. Shes MOT'd to November and has tax to August. Price is £1000, but negotiable. I'd prefer her to go to an enthusiast on here, rather then an eBay muppet, but car will be listed in due course.
I'm really attached to the car and don't want to sell, but I need to be realistic. All the M535i's that come up for sale are either basket cases or concours jobs. This is neither. Its an honest straight car, that you could buy tomorrow and run for another 10 years if you look after her. I was going to put some money into sorting the front suspension and getting the bodywork done, but my new e28 is a little special so I had to go for that instead. It would make a great track car or project with a little work or you could just leave it as is and spend a few quid on mechanicals. Up to you.
These pics are not the best, just some I have in my photobucket -
I'll get better pics when I have a chance!
