This week I'm mainly thinking about mk5 cortinas What are they like to live with and how much are they worth? Has anyone got a hyper cheap one for sale? preferably hearing aid beige. Maybe this should be in the general section???

Brilliant cars that can be maintained very easily and cheaply. Watch out for rear end swaying on initial acceleration. Means void bushes are gone. Still a cheap fix though. Front wing rot on the top edges and downt the edge nearest the door. All fords do this. I've owned three Mk 3's, three Mk 4's and a bucketload of Mk 5's. Never had anything major wrong with any of them. Always been strong, reliable and cheap to run. I completely submerged a Mk 3 (don't ask, wasnt my fault) and it was underwater for 24 hours. I towed it home, drained and stripped the interior, cleaned the carb and it started with some WD40 on 2nd turn of the key. Sounds like I'm bullsh*tting i know, but i tell you its true. The reg was YPV 63L. It was last seen fully restored in Campsea Ashe near Whickam Market. Anyone know of it?

go for it - they are cheap to buy and maintain - and fun to drive sideways - 1.6 pinto versions are the cheapest - consider doing a five speed conversion with a sierra box - for motorway speed cruising

I then wanted to start cleaning the interior as it stinks of wood (the material not the smell of a boner) best quote ever!

A set of polybushes (Deflex, about £130 for complete car including front subframe mounts if you want to go that far) will transform the car. They can be made to handle remarkably well. In fact the suspension is very similar to a friends brothers early 90's Mustang.
Nice big engine bay for future mods too.
I love mine.
In fact, click on the link in my sig and you'll find a Cortina section with lots of pics.
