Just saw some amazing steel wheels on a new Astra.... Don't think they were standard but if they were people should be tossing the usual over or under styled wheel covers immediately. Shame they were 5-stud though. Compounded by wanting to show someone the way the late'70s early '80's Escort/ Cortina steels tried to look Minilite-ish with a little painting. Anyway made me think it should be a retro thread... with so many interesting designs conceived through the late'60's -early '80's - & not just rostyles... Even some of the bland MkII Golf steels can look interesting with some of the unusual trim rings VW came up with. Nowadays they seem to be limited mostly to the SUV 4X4 Brigade though I did recently see an '80's Ford Falcon on new 16" Ford 4x4 wheels though I couldn't find any really good pics:

oh bland vw steels eh? i just so happen to have some with a lovely set of stainless beauty rings i got from Grizz that are currently receiving some "treatment" for the attached vehicle's mammoth makeover all happening very soon...... think bland wheel + imagination + stock parts from the same Brand stable = unique look that would also not look out of place on future look of said vehicle which in turn equals old + old + newer = old/new past/present and future all rolled in one! (if you understand that then you'll get my drift..Grizz has an insight as to what the future holds for the Golf world....)

Yes, I have and feel pretty honoured being allowed to look under theold girls skirts, to see what her new knickers will look like. If any of you have kept an eye open and seen the cars Martin turned out before..... watch this space. oh bland vw steels eh? Steveandhis244 thread reminded me to revive this thread with some of his pictures Ford Focus mk2: & banded variations: not so dramatic but I painted up my Accords styled steels a while ago too Was tempted to do them in a two tone effect with lighter 'spoke' bulges against a much darker background & highlighted hole edges. Got boring though & thought a darker metallic grey was enough highlighted by trim-ring, striped tyres & orange centre cap. Others of interest Chrysler Valiant Charger steel wheels Ford Territory steel wheels on a skyline Subaru Forester steel wheels Toyota RAV4

I saw a photo of a lowered lupo on VW T5 van steel wheels in the latest Fast Car Magazine yesterday. Think they look amazing - like oversized ATS Cups -

Fiat Barchetta steels are pretty cool. Saw them on a Talbot at RRG last year and they looked PFG
