Whilst adjust the ride height on my fiat the other day I noticed that my shing mag wheels don't locate on the raised ring in the centre of my drums therefore the only locate on the taper of the wheel nuts..
this is possibly a dumb question but is this safe or do i need to make up some sort of locating ring to take up the slack between the drum and the wheel centre?

Spigot rings - measure up what you require and go looking on fleabay

It depends on the what the original design was intended to be. My (admittedly older) cars use the wheel nuts for location.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is this the difference between hub-centric wheels and non-hub-centric? I've never quite got my head around that but it seems pretty important!

Fit them and drive round the block. If there's no vibration then they're fine. Any vibration and you'll need to use locating rings.

It depends how good the tapers are. As said, tighten them up evenly, the tapers should centralise the wheel. If they don't then you need spigot rings.

If you have tapered wheel bolts then theres no NEED for center location what so ever
If they were sleeve nut you could arge that theres a bit of slop there but at the end of the day its totaly insegnificant.
LOADs of cars don't have centre location as standard, it dosnt help hold your wheels on, it just makes sure they are centred on the hub when you bolt the wheel up.
