Got a pair of the last (eek!) two lower control arms made by BL for a Dolomite here......
UKC1698, grey dotted lines around it, on the right.
Now, whilst the castings seem OK obviously something has been skewed at some point - as the mounting holes are drilled off-centre from their bosses. I've checked the geometry and all the holes are in the right place, just offset slightly.
This leads to the following problem - one is acceptable but the other is not so hot - the problem is that the holes are supposed to be concentric with their bosses' outer diameter - for maximum strength.
However, they're offset by about a millimeter, making one side of the mount considerably thinner.
A bit like:
(---O-)
Instead of:
(--O--)
Overexaggerated but I'm sure you see it...
(this being the bit that the lower end bolt of the upright slides into)
Am I being horrendously picky, or is it actually a danger - it looks wrong and strikes me as the kind of thing that might fatigue if you hit it hard enough....
Personally I don't like it as mentioned, it looks wrong and is wrong - but I thought I'd ask for opinions
Wouldn't want it to be responsible for killing someone, would rather scrap it......
I do have some pictures but can't upload them at the moment......Left the damn cable at home!
